    Samsung Smart TVs

Who has one and what is your opinion of them in regards to picture quality, ease of use, set up and ability to play files off USB.

Is the browser solid or buggy?

    How are the apps?

    Compared to LG and Visio?

If you want the best picture quality, go for a Panasonic Plasma! My Panasonic is connected to my home network and I can stream any files on my laptop to my TV. If I want to use my TV as my computer screen, I just connect HDMI.

I have a Samsung Smart TV in our bedroom. Setup and menus are good. I don't use the apps. Not all of these TV's play USB video so be sure to check the manual before you buy. Mine only plays USB audio.

I have another smaller one in the daycare at work and it plays USB video. The media menu is quick to access and the controls and menu are friendly. I have a bunch of kid videos downloaded from YouTube saved on a 32GB USB drive, and any time you want to watch a video, it is just a few simple clicks away. Easier than a DVD for the kids.

Screen quality looks good to me when watching HDTV, DVD's, and BlueRay, but I am not WAY into that like some audio/video techies.

You should check if there's a newer firmware for your TV. I'm pretty sure I have an older Samsung LCD TV than yours and it plays USB videos just fine. So should yours.

I picked up a 40" Samsung Smart TV last night at Costco. It was probably one of the easiest things I have ever set up. It pretty much does all the work for you. It played FLV, MP4 right off the bat but had some issues with .MOV files that came off my Canon 7D. That isn't really a problem as I can hook up the Camera to a HDMI cable and play them.

Thanks for the input. The only PITA is the actual remote when trying to web browse and "type" in searches. That is sort of solved by using my iPhone as a remote.

I have 3 Samsung Smart TVs, but only use Netflix and play MP3s off USB on one of the TVs. Plays MP3s just fine and of course navigating through Netflix is delayed.

~$50 HDMI MiniPC running Android, and these are looking pretty good compared to AppleTV, OR a Roku:

I think you can plug these into a hub...

It seems strange to hear smart and TV used in the same sentence.

I own two of them and am very pleased. The Apps are decent and it plays everything I have attempted, also movies and MP3 off of my Windows 7 computer. Only gripe is almost everytime I access the Apps, it does a system/App update check and will download it if one is found. But really just a minor annoyance. I honestly think the picture quality is the best out there, but you're paying for it too.

Have you guys calibrated the sets or just use the factory settings?

i looked for a few threads/forums for suggested settings. it's hard to use a s/w to calibrate since it is very much a subjective thing and depends on time of day/lighting.

I always calibrate my TVs. Theres a DVD you can buy that comes with some blue tinted glasses. Works great.
