After watching WTC Bldg #7 being razed, and considering it's main occupants..

I stumbled onto this note while checking advanced weapons..
"911 = false flag. WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up".

Typically, the restore CD supplied by the manufacturer will restore the laptop to exactly the way you receive it. If you first received your laptop with only 1 partition, then the restore CD will also restore your computer with 1 partition only.

Are you talking about 1 drive or 1 partition? If you have another drive on the computer, it will automatically add another partition unless you have a RAID configuration.

The newer versions of Partition magic does not require floppy drive.

Most people do that now, this isn't 2002. There are tons of backup options, why would they bother with doing it for you?

I use this to resize partitions without having to wipe the drive. Free and simple.

Rather than messing with the partitions, I recommend a good backup strategy. I use Windows Home Server, a seldom known product from Microsoft which is extremely nice.

You can buy ready made servers or you can buy the software and build you own (I went the DIY route). Amazingly, the software is only $49.99!

You can use it to backup up to 10 PCs over the network, set and forget it so that you laptop/PCs etc. backup automatically to the Windows Home Server.

EDIT: Windows Home Server is discontinued by Microsoft, though OEMs can still buy them for a long time and individuals can buy them till Dec 2013. It is still a good solution and a cheap one.

Google search Hiren's boot disk. You can download it and put it on a flash drive or a CD. It has all kinds of partition tools on it.

I agree with the backup idea. Partitions only separate the hard drive. If the drive fails all of the data is gone not just one partition.

I have a real Windows server here at home, and as soon as anything fails on it, I am dropping Windows for Slackware Linux (boots to a CLI by default), since it is a one-trick-pony for backup data, and installer/ISO storage anyway...

Not $49.99 like Windows home server, but Free, not to mention doesn't require an i5/i7 if it's just a file-server... Once you learn enough Slackware, you can use any distro pretty well via the CLI. If you don't want to learn the Linux CLI, you can always use Webmin.

Some say that Linux is only free if your time is worthless, but with even Windows lately, basic tasks are completely less efficient... try running a chkdsk with the fix option (/f) in real-mode on a Windows8 box...
All the while the Linux CLI has remained virtually unchanged, and just as efficient. Slackware's installer is faster than most Windows installs, or other Linux distro installers.
                  Just saying...

As far as backup up a complete drive to another you can use clonezilla for XP, no problem. This way WHEN the OG drive actually fails, you can just slap the backup in and be where you started when you did the backup.
