My team use it when we need to assist customers with issues, we ask them to run the software and tell us the session ID, then we connect in and take control of their computer.
I recently started using this, and enjoy the software.

This combined with Dropbox can be a godsend.

While VNC may be more secure, poking ports in ur wall is a step in the opposite direction...

The goal Is to allow secure connection without compromising the first layer of security. Logmein does a better job of this as VNC exploits can be had through open ports.

I second Team Viewer.. It is free and ask for donations I think

You can also set it to be a constant ID number...

We use their GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar when we do presentations to customers, GoToMeeting also allow us to request to take control of keyboard mouse of the presenting machine and I think this is similar to their GoToMyPC product.

When we do this, we've discovered that it doesn't work as well as TeamViewer. It has trouble dealing with when Windows prompt you to confirm Administrator access (Windows UAC). Once that prompt gets triggered, you'll lose the keyboard/mouse control.

It might work better in GoToMyPC compared to GoToMyMeeting, I'm not 100% sure. However, TeamViewer is free for private use and works well, you might as well go with it.

I've been RDP'ing to my rigs at home for YEARS via my Androids, Linux rigs, and work rig.

Probably time to switch to something more secure... Luckily I have never logged in and taken over a session of someone else RDPing in, probably because I used to change my public IP like 2x/month.

Maybe I'll play with some OpenVPN stuff.
(At least I use ssh into my Slackware Linux box, and ssl for hitting my router... :| )

Talk to your IT department and have them set it up for you. Since you don't have an IT department clear it with your boss. Failing to do so can cost you your job. A quick and easy solution would be to use a service like LogMeIn.com.

I would stay away from that one. LogMeIn.com is the best out of all of them.

Log Me In is a better product, easy setup even for a novice... and secure as you use one username & pw to access logmein.com and your regular windows username and pw to log into PC.

                        Logmein is JUST AS SECURE!

What is better than 256 bit SSL encryption??? Are you saying your bank is less secure than VNC?? Banks use 256 bit SSL!!!

... and there is a Droid app and iPad/iPhone app for it too! ---But controlling a PC with a smartphone, while very geeky cool... is a PITA!!!

OP -- The problem with a question such as this is every geek has his or her opinion! Take a poll and you should see Logmein rise to the top! I have tried RDP, VNC, GoToMyPC, and I have stuck with Logmein for the last 7+ years!

We use a combination of VPN and Dameware. Sometimes RDP is allowed but we've tried to limit this as much as possible.
