    Any SEO gurus here?

Hey guys, I'm trying to get better search results for my page in order to produce more business. Is anyone here familiar with SEO? I could really use some help. Thanks in advance!

SEO is an industry of its own. It's not my thing, but I do have a colleague who's a web developer and used to create/sell SEO 'packages.'

From my understanding having a bunch of sites that reference your page makes it score higher most significantly. For example, if we were talking about [your industry] in a thread, and someone said,"Check this page out for _______ and ______" that context would make you score higher for contextually relevant searches. This is partly why you can't google a topic and not get a wikipedia page ranking pretty high. Or if you're searching for a technical question, you'll frequently hit something like Experts Exchange.

In any case, good SEO is going to come from someone that understands your industry/competition, who's looking for your product/service and how/why they're looking for it.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it.

I actually found someone on here who knows SEO and has helped me immensely. He's given me quite a few places to start and I'm confident I'm headed in the right direction.

It's a lot of info but the only way to thrive is to dive right in.

You should avoid any service that offers to get you high in the rankings quick. Google is always updating their algorithm and will punish you for using those services. You may see a short term gain, but it will kill you in the long run.

SEO is about content. Make your site a destination for information or get backlinks from reputable sites (not the ones that people sell you). Backlinks are basically when someone links from one site to yours because your site is relevant to the discussion. Its not easy by any means and there is not an easy solution. I would try SEM as well and look in to learning google adwords or another search engine PPC program.

If you have a cool or interesting product you may want to use social media like facebook to get some action on your website.
