SimCity 5 next Tuesday (March 5)

On the one hand, I want this because it's SimCity (duh). On the other hand, Electronic Arts has kind of tanked every company it has gotten its hands on (Maxis, Westwood, etc.). Plus, always online DRM, and smaller city sizes are almost a deal killer for me (think SimCity 4 medium sized cities as the max, supposedly to accommodate lower powered machines).

I've watched some people play the beta and I will concede that the game is at least very visually appealing.

I was watching the demo videos posted by EA last year. Sim City 5 looks awesome. What I really like is how roads play a more influential role on zoning, and roads carry all the resources (power, water) and the sewage, so you don't have to worry about water pipes and electrical lines.

I always liked the Sim City games but I have heard that Sim City 5 is an online game and that is why I won't be buying it.

I wish they could make an offline mode for those of us who want to build our own cities and develop our own regions.

I wanted the game but it is an "online-game". I am sick of that and EA is one of the worst offenders. I will go for the pirate version I guess for real freedom.

My son is a beta tester for the game and seems to enjoy it. He can not wait for the general release so he can get his hands on that one too.

i got it on my commodore 64 its hard cause you also have to deal with water supply then godzilla comes along and stomps a path of destruction

I just saw this on another site. Looks like a major time killer if I load it up. It looks promising because the engine is supposedly truly revolutionary for the group, built ground up and is a big step up from the past.

Will they work on their economics? I mean you can pretty much have a heavy handed tax structure and you see no crash, low income flourish, as do middle and industry....and a few turns you can get those nifty future structures.

Just doesn't reflect reality. It only slows down pop growth (of middle income) when just starting out...and really its not even a problem.

From what I understand yes. Since your city(s) is in a grid on a region, if your taxation is too high compared to other cities nearby - or other cities lowers their tax structure (you can micromanage tax to zones and income) you will see people just leave your city to the other ones.
