    First buy this
Channel Master (CM 4221HD) is a 4-bay HDTV/UHF Digital Outdoor TV Antenna that receives UHF and HD signals in a signal range of up to 45 miles.

I would go pci express card based tv tuner. If you are just going over the air for local tv services them I recommend that you get the Ati 650 pcie version and buy 2 cards so you can record 2 hdtv channels.

The picture quality great as long mount your antenna high up!

i am using 2 cheapy USB ATSC tuners.

that lasted me for a few years.

then i found out about SILICON DUST'S HD Prime box. with a cable card, i essentially have a comcast DVR, just without OnDemand (which is a biggie for me since i subscribe to Howard Stern TV).

but with the HD PRIME box, i can stack HD after HD and record HBO, SKINeMAX, and all premium channels for unlimited space if i want...

so, with my USB tuners and the 3 tuners that come with the HD PriME, i can record 4 shows at once (i am currently just using 1 USB tuner).

and this is a cheapy eMachine 2 core AMD machine...
