ps3, wii u, and the wii

So I saw the new white ps3 (classic) that comes with 12 games, but is buying a ps3 worth it? Or should I just wait for the new ps that is supposedly coming at the end of the year? I currently have the xbox and the ps3 wiuld only get used for certain ps1 games and games specific to ps3. Multi platform games would be xbox only.

Now, does anyone have the wii u? Is it worth getting over the wii? And if I get the wii u, do the games from the wii online store transfer over to the new console?

We got a Wii U before Christmas break - kids all chipped in $50/each from their savings, and I covered the other $150 ($350 total).

We don't do normal TV - just streaming via NetFlix ($8/mo), Amazon Prime ($80/year, or $6.67/mo. and we get free 2-day Amazon shipping), and Hulu Plus ($8/mo). The upcoming Wii TV is what sold my wife on it. It will eventually allow you to keep track of what you watch, per Wii profile, and let you know where a given show/movie is available on these 3 services. Eventually... right now it sort of stinks. We've had times it says a show is available, and we select it and when it gets to the actual service-specific app to play it, it says the show/episode is no longer available. The concept is great, but it's not there yet. I love that the Gamepad works as a remote for our TV as well (granted, we only use it to turn the TV on, adjust the volume, and change between the Wii, Wii U and Sony Bluray "channels" our TV has) - so much so we don't ever touch the regular TV remote now.

I believe you can move all your Wii downloaded games over - but I think it may wipe them from the Wii and requires you to do it via an SD card. We are not doing that as we still have our Wii and plan to connect the new Wii U to an eventual big screen flat TV, and then be able to play some of the games head-to-head (Call of Duty, etc.). I hacked our Wii so we have an external USB hard drive that we legally copy all of our games to and play from that and never have to touch a disc after a guest wrecked a $40 Super Mario Wii disc.

We're hoping we can put in any Wifi-enabled games into the Wii U and play head-to-head against the Wii. Plus, folks are working on hacking the Wii U for external hard drive storage as well (I believe they have it working already for the legacy Wii mode, but not for Wii U mode). BTW, in that way it's like the Wii was with GameCube games - it has a legacy mode which you can start up to play old games (same with the online stuff you transfer over, I think).

Just depends on the type of games you like. We've got like 50 titles for the Wii (we just wait 1-2 years and buy the ones we like for $10-20). 2-4 player is a must for us as we're a family of 6. Nintendoland is a lot of fun and we can play 5 players now (1 on the Wii U Gamepad and 4 on Wiimotes). That's been a blast, and I can't wait to see more games that take advantage of the Gamepad plus 4 Wiimotes.

I bought a PS3 because at the time it was a good deal on a Blu-Ray player with some perks. I'd say if you waited this long, wait till the new one is launched THEN get a PS3, I'm sure whatever's next will be $500.

It's only 10 or so months before the new Xbox and PS come out. I'd certainly wait if I could, at this point.

That aside, you should be able to get a nice used PS3 if you really feel like you need to get something. I don't think I'd buy a new one with the next gen consoles around the corner.

The only way I'd get a Wii U at this point is if i NEEDED to play a 1st party Nintendo game. The system is a game desert at this point and it's not looking good for the rest of the year. It's looking to have as bad or worst 3rd party support (shovelware and ports) as the wii had.

As an adult gamer, the Wii U just holds little interest for me (I can see it being good for kids).

The new PS4 will be really expensive and have a whole bunch of problems in the first batch. They always do have problems with the first batch. Go with the PS3 that's proven.

At this point, I'd wait for the Xbox 3 or PS4 over getting a WiiU. Unless there's a particular Wii U game you just "need" to play. I'd rather put that $ towards getting one of the newer consoles at the end of this year. They are going to be far and away better than the WiiU, in every respect.

You already have a console. Go out and buy some older or used games you missed to tide you over until the end of the year. It's a better option than spending $$$ on the WiiU which will be functionally obsolete by the end of the year in every respect but being a Nintendo 1st party game player. (And if Nintendo 1st party games are that important to you, you'd already likely have a Wii or WiiU).

Yep, seriously. Sony has steadily rolled back features from the PS3 since launch.

The dual-boot Linux feature, which was much touted as the most innovative advancement in console gaming, was tossed out the window with a software update.

Backwards compatibility? Sony has decided you do not need those anymore.

Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD)? Sony does not stoop to providing warranty service. You must continue paying tribute to Sony by buying more consoles to replace your broken ones so that they may bend you over some more.

I am seriously contemplating skipping out on the next gen consoles, since backwards compatibility is a major factor in my purchasing decisions. This is something even Microsoft is guilty of dropping the ball on, so I am not biased towards any specific vendor.

Disclaimer: I used to own a 1st gen PS3. Not anymore since Sony took out Linux and Backwards Compatibility, and does not provide warranty on YLOD, as opposed to Microsoft's response towards Red Ring of Death. Yes I am on my 3rd Xbox 360, but replacement units were all covered under warranty.

Ps4 will not be able to play physical retail copies of ps3 games. I.e. blu ray disks bought at retail. It can stream from the cloud but I'm sure they will have a fee

Nintendo will be going the way of sega soon. They have a limited market. Their core gamers are getting too old and they can't afford to keep up with the tech. And this latest console is considered to be all but a total failure. It's not quite Virtua Boy bad but it is right up there with the Sega Saturn as far as sales numbers.

I see this going one of two ways. They give up on hardware and go the way of Sega, software only. Not a bad idea considering all the IP they own. Or... Someone like say... Apple, buys them. Apple probably keeps more in their petty cash then big N's market cap. And I could see this as a great way for Apple to get rid of the dreaded.. "I love Apple but all the cool games are on PC or console". They could literally ditch the console and run it as an emulator on the Apple TV!
