    Windows 8 queston

My mother is in her late 80ies and currently has a very poorly operating XP Dell computer. She tries but I have serious doubts on her ability to learn a new operating system. Something new will be purchased. The remote administrator has suggested a new tower that he can program with XP so there will be no learning curve.

Question? Is Windows 8 going to be overpowering or is it easy enough to learn.

    Thanks
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

The system is not all that difficult but sometimes even little changes can be difficult for older people. My mom is a little younger than yours and I've kept her on Vista, which she sort of can do OK but it was a steep learning curve for her since she did not have a computer prior. I may get her a touch tablet with Win 8 sometime in the future, it might be a little more easier for her.

If you have doubts about her learning any new operating system then Windows 8 I think is going to be a big struggle. Unless it's setup on something like a touch screen tablet.

I love 8 on my tablet. Gestures are easy to learn. On the PC i struggle a bit. Just mental i guess.

Windows 8 is part of the question

Does she use MS Office? The new versions are definitely different

What version Web Browser does she use and does it feel differen than the current version.

            Suggestion
Take her to a store and let her her try some machines with Windows 8

            Can she figure it out???

I agree windows 8 with the classic shell or Start8 isn't much different than any other windows computer.

i think windows 8 was designed with a touchscreen in mind. I don't much like it on my laptop

I've been upgrading computers for my staff, and I'm buying PC's with Windows 7 still installed - not planning to move to 8, ever, it sounds like it's Vista all over again.

for example, throw some more memory in this thing, and you're good to go:

"[T]he liberties of the American people [are] dependent upon the ballot-box, the jury-box, and the cartridge-box . . without these no class of people could live and flourish in this country." -- Frederick Douglass (1892)
