Mac guys please help!

Long story short, I have the same ol macbook Ive been using since '06. My latest software is old, version 10.5.8

I backed up my iphone this morning, and went out and bought the new iphone 5. Well I cannot even sync the new phone, because my firmware is too old. And after restoring my old iphone, I tried to sync it to the backup I created this morning and it wont add my contacts, pics, music, etc. I tried locating the backup on mobilesync, but I cannot even locate the mobilesync folder in the hard drive! What can I do to get my new phone to sync? Thanks

Well I know that I cant go straight to lion, I must first get snow leopard and then to lion, but I thought maybe there was an easier fix. Oh well looks like I have to bite the bullet and buy two operating system updates.

Here's the rub.


If you "updated your iOS when you backed up your system," it (your old iphone) is now incompatible with your older OS. This leaves you with two options:

1: Jailbreak the old phone and rollback the changes to an older iOS and then get all your goodies off of it that way.

2: goto an apple store and pay a "genius" to do exactly what step #1 did, only if they F it up, you might get a gift card or something instead of an even worse headache ( not familiar with your tech level )

nothing wrong with UNIX based OS. Like anything, you have to peel the wrapper off the banana before you eat it.

Genius Bar appointments don't cost anything...make an appointment and they may be able to find it. If you use time machine you can jump back and get it. You can buy snow leopard and then just straight to mountain lion, it depends on how much ram you have...you may not be able to jump to mountain lion.

Was able to copy the restore file from mobilsync and transfer that to another computer running snow leopard. Then I restored it on the new computer. Worked fine
