    PlanetSide 2 MMOFPS

Planetside 2 game will be released on 11/20/12. PC only, no consoles.

If any of you do get beta, I am playing as NC on Esamir continent on Thebe West server as MyOdessa, uFear Outfit.

    For those who don't know:

PlanetSide 2 can be described as a combination of Halo: Combat Evolved for visuals and futuristic look, and BF2 or Project Reality for game dynamics, teamwork and squad interplay.

In short: three races/factions control planet/continent, Vanu - alien race, probably eat human children for breakfast, but look cool; Terran - power grabbing, socialist government loving, jack-booted thug types; New Conglomerate - stupid name, but freedom loving association of anarcho-capitalists, look as good as Vanu and can kick butt.

There are going to be a number of continents when game released, probably with different geographic features. I am fighting on Esamir continent now, mostly mountainous terrain, with very few flat spots and relatively small area, not the best tank country. However, small area is a relative term, maps are as large or larger then anything we had in Project Reality and definitely much larger then BF3, in fact, flag zones in PlanetSide 2 are the size of a small/medium map in BF3. It is not unusual to see twenty or more tanks and planes supporting infantry, fighting over flag area on each side.

Each race/faction has its own un-cap base to spawn in. There are other outposts/facilities, where you can spawn and get vehicles, plus mobile spawn points for infantry. The Planetside 2 is definitely not a "lone wolf" game like BF3, you have to join good squad to be effective, with possible exception of infiltrator/sniper class, but even they will do better by working in pairs. Each squad can have 12 players. Squads can be locked. Squads can be organized into platoons, increasing ability to overcome enemy resistance. VOIP is working in squad and among platoons. Proximity VOIP is also available. According to Planetside wiki, continents can hold up to 2000 players, but I heard that there may be caps put in place for actual game.

When starting out, you chose server to play on and race you want to be. Your scores, certifications and unlocks are not transferable between races and servers, but you can have a number of different in-game accounts at the same time. All in-game accounts are tied to your station/master account, so if you screw up one in-game account, you can delete it and create a new one, or if you just want to play different races/factions/servers with different name, you can, just like we used to do in BF2/PR/BF:BC2. Certifications are used to unlock upgrades for classes/vehicles, like better armor, speed, ammo, etc.

Sony created Alpha squad that cost $40, it is available for limited time. It gives you immediate access to beta and they will send you extra beta key for a friend. You also get 12 unlocks and power/resource boost for 6 months after game release and you get 4,000 station cash you can spend inside the game. All in all, not a bad deal, but not really necessary either, except to get into beta.

So far I like this game a lot. If there is a game that can breathe life back into gaming clans, PlanetSide 2 is it. I just hope Sony will not screw it up in final version.

I played the first one, was lots of fun. Especially when Gal Gunships and BFR were released.

Probably gunna do vanu again. TC and NC usually had numbers. And who can really say no to hover tanks, dominates the open terrain.

I never played the first one, most of my gaming was with Battlefield series, BF2 with Special Forces add on was the great one and Project Reality just added another level to it. BC2 was OK, but BF3 I just can't stand. So it was nice to find game that combines elements of BF2 and PR.

As far as Vanu goes, I also noticed that most play as either TC or NC, when full game is released I may create account for Vanu, just to for the hell of it.
