I broke Excel, how do I fix it?

Reinstall? Better yet, install the latest Office Service pack, that usually re-tweaks things.

go to Excel Options > Formulas, then uncheck the "R1C1 reference style" and it will go back to column letters.

weird, i opened one of my workbooks and it looks likes its fixed. then, i closed it and reopened the one i was working on and it came back. opened the working one and it fixed the one i need to work.
