    MS update KB issue?

This AM Microsoft pushed out update KB2732059 (Win 7 x64). Ever since my Internet has been erratic or freezes. IE has hanged up twice and Firefox is not much better.

Anybody else experience issues or am I the lucky one?

I suppose I can delete it without ramifications, yes/no.

    Thanks for any feedback.

By the way, don't call their toll free number listed to "help" with issues caused by their update. Not good---!

ETA: yes I have run Malwarebytes and ESET.

    Thanks
    Kyle

You can uninstall it but it sounds like an unrelated issue. If both browsers are hanging up are other, non-browser, programs experiencing any issues? When you saying "hanged up" do you mean the process is not responding? Does it ever begin to respond again?

You can definitely delete it and report back unless you are opening a lot of .oxps from a windows 8 machine.

      Hi Chris,

No, just browsers, nothing else. There were a couple of times that the browser would re-start, others not. Could not close the program, but oddly some parts of the page, like news teasers stilled functioned, but nothing worked.

Eventually it would close, sometime with error messages that "IE was not responding" or what ever site I was on was not responding.

From Event Viewer: The program iexplore.exe version 9.0.8112.16450 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.

      I'm not familiar with .oxps. (Win 7 x64 IE-9 32 bit---the 64 bit never worked for me)

If it's not the KB download what would be the next to look at?

      Respectfully
      Kyle

That's a tough call, I really hate browsers in general. When in the event viewer what is listed in the column that says event? It should be a 1-4 digit number.

.oxps is a new file extension specifically for Windows 8 when you save a file using the Microsoft Document Imager. It's pretty much useless.

I would say take a look at your task manager and see what your CPU usage is as well as page file usage. If they are high take a look at the processes and see what is using all of your processor. If there is nothing there, I might do a system restore if possible.

Yeah, they are all 1002's. As far as CPU usage, right now it's a bit high because I've run every virus checker I can find. It's at 23% but usually runs between 17% and 20%. After running a virus check it normally hits 23-24% so that's about right,

Thanks for the feedback, if you think of anything else...

          Thanks

Going out on a limb here but you've tried a reboot and the problem persists right?

Yep---several times. Hey, no harm in asking. But I'm starting to think there is something common that I see both on FF and IE.

              Thanks again Chris

It sounds like it however it is kind of weird that it's only affecting those two programs. Is the issue still going on today? Have you tried uninstalling the update yet? Sorry I couldn't respond sooner, hectic evening.

No problem Chris. The common "thing" I noticed both in IE/AOL and Firefox/Att.net was they both had a Captial One "splash ad" (that's what I call them). After signing into my mail in either ATT or Yahoo/Att mail, that's where I'd lose it. Firefox wouldn't crash, it'd just stop, IE took a dive. No Captial One ad displayed, and I could read mail. Go back later and if the ad was there, I went down.

Can code from an ad hang up a browser, even if you have "gone through" that area and on to other pages? The ad was on the AOL mail sign-in page and on the home page of ATT---just curious. Today no problems and the ad isn't around---yet.

That may not have been the problem, but the only thing common that I could see.

                  Opinion?

                  Thanks
                  Kyle

It is definitely possible if if it is Flash or Java and it can absolutely cause your browser to hang up or even crash if they are out of date. I would definitely update Flash and for Java, it's a little more complicated, but uninstall and remove all Java registry entries, reboot, then reinstall it. It's a PITA but Java is notorious for having issues with their updates and this would be the proper way to do it.

Actually, I don't run JAVA on this machine. Flash updated itself recently... but I'll give that a check

                      Thanks Chris

                      ETA: Flash is current, so....

Interesting. Next time you see that ad, right click on it and see what kind of object it is.

I have seen updates whack out IE many times on Win7 boxes. I tried different browsers (manually via FTP [via cli] to Mozilla's FTP server) to no avail, and just did a reinstall. A reinstall took less time in all cases than trying to troubleshoot the issue did on the 1st two.

Hell, here at work I don't even use IE because it is not worth the wait, or the trouble.

Will do, though I hope not to see it again. The ads are usually behind a sign on type screen, but I'll try right clicking.
