Jailbroken ipad question

Anyone know if there's a disadvantage to a jail-broken apple ipad? I'm looking to get one for my kid and seems like many are jail-broken. Is there any real advantage yet mostly concerned about the disadvantage of a jailbroken ipad?

There are two issues that come to mind with a jail broken device. Updating to a new version of IOS can be a major challenge because iTunes may not validate the current OS on the device and may not let you update the software. Second issue would be allowing the device to load programs from sources other than itunes. You run the risk of downloading an app that will not have been vetted by apple and could damage the ipad.

If it were me, I would get one that is not jailbroken, especially for use with kids.

Makes sense. That was what I was worried about. Sounds like a modded xbox 360 going on live.

I have a jailbroken iPad. It works just fine. You can't update the iOS without breaking the jailbreak. So you have to wait a few days for the newest jailbreak before doing an OS update.

I don't see any huge advantage to doing it. But I like to be able to have a little more control over my expensive toys than Apple wants to give me. I have never had a problem with 3rd party apps. Apple has let some malware through it's app store. Just because Apple doesn't want you to be able to do certain thnigs with your property doesn't mean they are bad things. MY pad is wifi only. If it were 3g too then jailbreaking it is a no brainer if for nothing else then the apps that allow you to make it a hotspot without having to pay additional ransome to AT&T.
