I don't know much about the different game systems, playstation, Nintendo wii, and Xbox 360 so I'll ask the folks here. I want to get one for my daughter and wife to play those family style games on. Games like the dancing game, tennis, and the exercise game. I have no idea how these things work but supposedly you hold some magic wand in your hand and act like you're really doing the thing on the screen and the machine picks up the motion. My question is which system works best for picking up human motion for these types of games? Are there any that don't require you to buy lots of accessories and can see the human body move?

Motion tech, is motion tech. It boils down to user preference with the interface and titles offered with the top two choices being the Playstation Move and the XBox Kinect. Wii is outdated tech but will probably be back in a few with an updated offering.

How old is your daughter? Nintendo has always been geared towards a younger/family demographic. Nintendos 3rd party developers know who butters their bread so they make a ton of family oriented games. Not that they dont have more adult based games. Playstation 3 and Xbox has family games, but their demographic is more of a hardcore gamer. The other thing to consider is do I have a blueray movie player? Would i like to stream movies to my tv? Xbox and PS3 have a robust library of downloadable movies plus the option to rent on the fly. Either by Hulu, Netflix or Vudu. Not all of it is free, but its hell of a lot cheaper than most cable or dish providers. Do some more research or pm me and ill help as best as i can. I also want to add that were getting too the the 8-10 mark on the three different platforms. I know that Nintendo has been talking about releasing WII U and Xbox is already developing a new console as well. Im sure Sony isnt far behind.

Our daughter is preteen but getting to that age where she nags us for stuff and we refuse. So, if we get this game system, it'll be her Christmas and birthday presents, only because it's so expensive.
We don't have blueray because we don't watch TV much except the Discovery channel and National Geographic, and streaming movies is not something we have any desire to do. Our family is very active and don't spend time in front of the TV only at nights when we aren't doing other things. Our daughter spends the daylight hours reading, playing and gardening in the back yard, ice skating, and dancing, so she's not one of those kids who sit in front of a TV all day. This desire for a game system came from both my wife and daughter after they went to a friend's house with a Wii system and they liked the games you can play on it. I hear there's one game where you can play with an imaginary pet dog or cat on the screen.

While I am a PS3 user and a PS3 fan, when it comes to motion games - xbox360 kinect is the definitive choice.

xbox 360 with kinect sensor, is the only thing out there that reads body movements with no other controllers needed. it has adventure, dancing, exercise and iirc some sports games.

I use the Xbox Kinect and there have been 2 updates to the system itself which makes the Kinect movement more precise with less lag. I have to say the Kinect is a better choice and this has been one of the biggest rental package aside from our movie service.

Yes it does not need any wand, controller, or any electronic unit the user needs. It works with kid around the ages of 7 and up. When the Kinect first came out there was the issue with a slight lag, play space limitation, and end point identification (hand, feet, and head). After their recent software upgrade there was much improvement in all areas.

I own both a XBox 360 w/kinect and a Wii and overall the XBox gets the vote for getting used more then the Wii ever will. The Kinect as previously mentioned works fairly well (still not overly impressed with it though).

The new XBox 720 and Kinect 2 is suppose to dramatically change that but thats to be seen once it's released (I believe Christmas 2013?)

my two choices would be wii and xbox 360.... if price is sensitive go wii but know what it is outdated at the moment... if you decide to pay more get the 360 with kinect BUT remember that you need a good amount of space to use it as well. I have a wii and 360 and currently can't really get the kinect because it requires you to be about 6ft away from the sensor which i currently don't really have but luckily i don't have too much time for it anymore either...

Kinect is the best at the moment. I wouldn't bother with the Wii, it's a bit outdated and the catalog is diminishing.
