I have a PS3 and Xbox 360, but the only play the PS3 gets is for blueray lol. I would get an Xbox 360 for gaming. As for the games COD series ****s on everything else imo.

COD sucks unless you like a game that requires little to no skill. BF on the PC is where it is really at, but since he said PS3.......there really is no difference(unless you really want to play Gears of War or Halo). Except its FREE to play PS3 games online.

Are we talking First Person Shooters only? PS3 has some great TPS games with actual stories and puzzles. Uncharted Series, The Last of Us(will be AMAZING!), Warhawk was fun, but has been replaced by Starhawk(haven't played the full game yet). Resistance is a better series than Killzone, but both are also fun shooters. Also, you have Gran Turismo if your into racing sims.

BTW - they maybe announcing a price drop, or even a new super slim design of the PS3 at the Tokyo Game show(if you can hold off until November - holiday shopping season)

To clarify a tad bit more. The wife wanted a PS3. That eliminates all other options. Secondarily, she wanted shoot em up games for said PS3.

My lack of current gaming knowledge is probably pretty clear since I said FPS games when I actually prefer (I guess it's called) TPS, where you can actually see your guy. Anyway, she's happy, so I'm happy. Anyone who's been married for more than 5 minutes knows happy wife = happy life.

            Edited to add:

Exactly my gaming skill level. No comment on the wife's.

It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

TPS = third person shooter The PS3 also makes a great media hub(dlna media streaming from local device, Amazon Video, Netflix, NFL Ticket, NHL Ticket, Hulu, Blu-Ray, etc.)

Don't buy movies from teh PSN store(I would recommend Amazon for that). PS3 has a horrible back-up/restore policy for their movies/tv shows. Mine died and there is no way to get back the TV shows and Movies I bought(even if I get another PS3). Sony might give me "some" credits, but they will not give me full credit or reimbursement.

              Enjoy!

That's another thing I don't get. It's a game console. While I realize nearly everyone else uses theirs for "other stuff" too, we use it to play games. It's like the iPhone - it's a phone. When I want interwebs I go to the computer.

Holy crap - I'm only 1/2 step away from the "Get off my lawn!" stage, aren't I.

                  I'm afraid so.

Most electronics, including you car and new fridges, IS a computer these days. They have a CPU, memory, operating system and frequently, networking capability (wireless, ethernet, bluetooth or others etc).

OK, so I'm actually having fun running through the campaigns but the wife keeps getting killed. Anyone know of any similar shoot em up games that are a tad more "softball" so to speak?

I order both for xbox and pc version. I don't have personal television set. So,
when my daughter is in her school i use her tv to play my xbox 360. And play in my 17" laptop when she come back from school or during weekend. The family TV is reserve only for watching. My wife don't let me connect the xbox to that damn television. lol

is the difficulty on normal or easy? cause if it is already on easy... there isn't much else that would be "softball"

                          you can try:
-red dead redemption: western setting, even good online mode.
                          -killzone 2/3: decent sci-fi shooter
-socom4: never played this besides demo but seems alright?
-mass effect 2/3: more of a RPG Shooter than a straight up shooter. although you will need to play 1 to really get the full story and that was only on xbox, but there is a dlc that gives a very quick overview of 1 for ps3
-ghost recon future soldier: you are a spec ops team, good gun customization although you will need more than 1 playthrough to enjoy that aspect fully as parts are unlocked if you achieve mission bonuses.
-army of two: for great co-op as this game is focused on the co-op aspect, but standard brainless shooter.

I have Origin and Steam on my computer. They run great Christmas and Summer sales...

I got Crysis, Crysis 2, and Crysis Wars for under $10

Medal of Honor (the newest one) was free when I preordered BF3 and I also got $20 off BF3

The Call of Duty Series also goes on sale regularly. I have about 20 games in my PC library and I have spent under $100. Most of these games were 40-60 on console when I bought them. If you have a computer thats able to handle games like BF3, i suggest trying it. Theres a completely different aspect to gaming when its dont with keyboard and mouse
