    remote cam system

Hey Techno gurus: Anybody have any idea what would be involved and what it would cost to set up a cam system, with internet accessibility, on a remote piece of land? No power on land so it would need to be solar (but I can set that part up).

    Something like this: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...t_7&id=8761454

So just thinking out loud, to replicate what they did, you'd need....

    * a bunch of wifi enabled cameras
    * wifi access point and enough repeaters to provide necessary coverage -- they didn't say how spread out the cameras are
    * internet access, through mobile phone data network if available or satellite otherwise
    * computer to control the camera, handle the internet access and perhaps storage to hold the images when internet access is down
    * computer programming to schedule and run everything automated
    * solar power system that has enough battery storage to keep everything running for a long time
    * power distribution system to bring power to every piece of gear
    * some kind of secured housing to keep everything out of the elements

There are already systems to provide the storage and remote access of cameras (wired and/or wireless); you don't need IP cameras for that. Some of them do provide PTZ (moveable cameras) support as well. They are security DVRs, often with 4-, 8-, and 16-camera support.

Solar and battery for power you'd need to figure out. I just don't know enough about how you'd get the internet connection. Much of what lazyworm said makes sense though.

I have a 4-camera standalone DVR system at home. All wired, not wireless but there are adapters which would allow me to add/replace with a wireless (or upgrade to a native-wireless DVR and cameras). My cameras are all outdoor color-day/IR-nightview. I can remotely control/view over the internet or smartphone. Of course, all tied into house power and the DVR is stored in the house.

CalGuns Network (CGN) is different from CalGuns Foundation (CGF). Both need our support. I have gold name because I support CGN; plus, I send $10 every two weeks to CGF automatically via online BillPay as described here.

Support CGF by shopping at Amazon!

thanks. Any recommendation as far as software to control cams and to view the results on the net?
