HD security vid recorder?

OP... just curious, whats the application? Home Security?

Buy a camera from Ubiquity and try it out. I got the 3 pack just to test out. They cost around $100 per camera and the software on the website is free. Also includes most of those must have features.

If you have a spare Windows PC sitting around you can install the software and test it all out.

For the money its pretty hard to beat.

PM me if you need some recommendation on places to buy them from.

The Ubiquiti cams I found looked like a great deal, but I need a much longer lens than anything they seemed to offer.
I've gotta shoot over 100' just to get to the leading edge of my target and need a lens that's "35mm camera equivalent" to between about 65 to 130 mm focal length.
About 80 - 100mm equivalent focal length would be ideal...

Would really like one of these with either 65 or 135mm equivalent lenses

I may have access to a Dell laptop with 500GB HDD, i7 processor, & 16GB RAM
I assume that would do for a my recorder, especially if I add an external (large) USB HDD...?

If I can use that laptop with "free" Mobotix software I might be able to afford a decent Mobotix cam.

I know of some other security cameras that actually use Canon SLR camera lenses, but it would blow your budget out of the water.

I know a good amount of companies make cameras with interchangeable lenses, just have to do a little searching.

Quality looks pretty good for the price. I'll add 2 more cameras later (Dahua which look like the Qsee cameras spec wise). The Qsee Camera's look to be rebranded versions of the item below

Very impressed with the quality 720P at 30fps. I almost jumped on the 1080P Lorex kit. But it does 1080P at 5fps! WEAK





When I saw Mobotix I was blown away. But their M12 is way out of my budget. And as a photographer/videographer I can appreciate a high quality image. Just overkill for residential use for me.

As far as additional lighting...what do you guys recommend?

IR illuminator? or Motion detectors with some halogens/LED? I hear LED doesn't emit UV, so Im guessing halogen would be better at night?
