Transfer files to tablet (android)

not sure if it's he same for other android devices. i have a touchpad with ICS installed. trying to transfer files via usb and android's MTP was really slow, not to mention always having to be hardwired. so i installed es file explorer to connect to my nas and just download from there directly over wifi.

'tis awful slow. not sure which is slower - usb or wifi at this point.

i tried this via the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi. nothing else causing network traffic at this time in my home network.

any other alternatives? at least i'm not hardwired but simple 1gb files take forever vs. doing it hardwire from my nas to the laptop. the touchpad is supposedly dual band with support for 802.11a/b/g/n. my asus router is dual band too with 802.11n support.

Might just be the implementation of ICS on the HP TouchPad; remember that the native OS was WebOS.

FTP to the NAS, or is it unsupported? FTP is pretty lean.

(Somebody could be leaching WiFi bandwidth if you are using WEP?)

When I had mine, i don't think i had a slowness problem with USB. Could be a bad port or a bad driver in the rom. Switch over to the webOS and see if it still does it.

I noticed the same on my Galaxy s3 with ES file Explorer thru wifi and usb. Think I will try wired ethernet thru usb OTG.

1GB over wifi isn't gonna be a fast transfer. that being said, I have used ES file explorer+VPN to connect to work sometimes(3G) and fill out my timesheet, and have never had any issues. You can't expect great speed on cellular or wifi networks. I think I am on gingerbread(2.3.3).

i figured since i'm running 802.11n network, even in wifi it shouldn't be slower to much over hardwired. i'll have to do a test and time it on:

* hardwired nas to laptop as a benchmark
* hard wired via usb nas -> laptop -> touchpad
* the nas -> touchpad w/ android via es explorer
* hardwired via usb nas -> laptop -> clockwork recovery menu

guess i can benchmark it too using nas -> laptop -> webos. just kinda sucks since usb is slower and i have to use a machine as an intermediary to move things to the touchpad.

ftp is supported by es file explorer. i just have to setup my nas for it (netgear readynas duo). of course, ftp is over wifi internal network so not sure if that's going to be much faster over just plain ol' wifi.
