    Laptop wireless adapter issues

So I'm running a cheap Toshiba Satellite C655 w/ an Atheros AR9285 wireless adapter which has problems loading pages/connecting. I have an ATT Uverse provided 2wire router.

So I believe the adapter has issues. The connection is slow, sometimes takes pages minutes to load, however if I keep clicking on a link it will (for lack of a better term) eventually force load. It doesn't matter the browser. If I move farther away from the router, like 40-50 feet, and through three walls, the connection improves and links load as soon as I click. However, if I'm sitting 15 feet away with no obstructions, it sucks. Also, if I plug in the laptop cord the problem is diminished, but sometimes still exists. I've tried different drivers for the card. Toshiba support lists only one, but I've found others on the net and experimented with them. No change. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the card, no change. It's weird.

We have other wireless devices which have ZERO issues with the router. Two Galaxy Nexus, another laptop, and a Kindle. Everyone who comes over and pirates our wireless has no issues.

Should I just buy a different adapter and install it? I've never torn into a laptop but I can't imagine it would be that hard. I haven't had a single problem with the laptop till now (2+ years). Suggestions? Thanks.

If it was a channel issue wouldn't the problem be consistent with all devices?
