By the looks of the diagram, it most likely is a standard power supply used in that case. But without pictures, I can't say for sure as manufacturers sometimes use custom power supplies in their units.

As to what you plan to upgrade to, it would help if you stated what you have as add-ons in your system and what you are considering as far as add-ons or upgrades go. 650W is a pretty beefy PSU for a manufacturer built system. Is this a gaming rig? Most people are perfectly fine with 600W-700W PSUs even in a higher end system. However if you have lots of drives or multiple high end video cards, you may need to go higher. So, that's why we'd need to know your systems demands.

Ok, whoa. The video cards are definitely going to tax your power supply.. Now, if you're currently running a 650 (you are), and you're not seeing any problems, I'd say you're probably fine with a 650. This effect is going to vary greatly depending on which nvidia cards they are. It can't hurt to go up to a 700 or 800.

I think the PS you have in that box has a 20 pin main connector. ATX power supplies are made for a 20 or 24 pin connector. I don't think there exists an ATX psu that *wont* work on a 20 pin ATX main board, but as stupid as that would be it might exist.

For brands I always go to antec or corsair, and they've never done me wrong. Just get a 650 (or more) ATX power supply, and you should be good to go.

how would i know if there was a power problem?
i have been having a problem with startup......sometimes the pw fan spins a high rpm and the system doesn't boot....after a few tries, and disconnecting the power chord it eventually will boot.........i dont know if that menas it is going to fail or does not have enuf power or something w/ the MOBO.....

A 650 watt PS should be more than enough for most video cards and whatever your system is running. Unless your building a super high end gaming rig and it requires a higher rated PS.

I was having computer problems back in May and though it was the PS had all the signs, trouble booting, freezing at a set time, left on the PC ran fine turn it off have to boot it a dozen times to get it to work.

Turns out it was the video card dying. I upgraded to a 750 watt which is way more than what I need I don't play games anymore but it was a 1 day sale and for 35 bucks said what the hell. My friends gaming PC has a 650 watt and anything less his Nvidia card will not work. At the time we tried his video card in my computer but the old 450 watt couldn't handle it would have saved me buying a new PS but hey now I have a better quieter one and a spare.

So if you are having booting problems it might be the video card, I got my last one for 6 bucks after rebate a Nvidia one does it all but it won't do high end games which I don't play on the PC anyways.

interesting, ok,....yeah, it was hell trying to get all the video cards to work initially........so maybe that is the issue.
thanks!!! i have 2 quadro's and one 7100 series going.

In my experience the power supply can often be the first thing to go, but on some acers I've seen the motherboards go out consistently before anything else, which is much more of a pain to replace in comparison to the psu.

Intermittent problems like the one you are describing can be difficult to diagnose. In your case my first guess would be the motherboard or you power supply is causing that problem. I know of some motherboards that just have a quirky problem like that causing them to tweak out on startup in a way very similar to what you're describing. Depending on how far you want to go with this you can update the BIOS on the mobo.

If it is the power supply causing the problem, swapping it out would be the easiest way to be sure because it really doesnt take that long to replace.

do you care about fit and finish? if so, youre pretty much stuck with the factory power supply since lenovo (chinese) tends to build proprietary systems.

if you dont care, as i dont, go out and get a 750 gamer from amazon. here are a few tips about buying a new psu.

                    1) factory psu ratings are BS
                    2) pretty much any psu manufacturer (antec, seasonic, etc) will be much better than the factory psu and will advertise correct power ratings.
                    3) power supplies tend to weaken in 3 or 4 years and drop their actual power level.

im pretty sure you can get a antec gamer 750 for around $60 online. check around.

I am not sure about Lenovo, but I do know Dell uses a proprietary connector for their MB/PS connection. Might want to call lenovo to verify. Otherwise you should be GTG.
