So I have a Macbook (older, maybe '05?) and I thought the HD crapped out, but after replacing it, I discovered the problem is most likely the SATA cable inside. I returned the HD. I have no desire to start taking this thing apart (the trackpad doesn't work either, it requires a mouse). Can I load up a portable OS and just use it to surf sans HD? Which OS and do I need to "create" the bootable USB drive on a Mac to be compatible? Thanks

If it boots to a standard x86, or x64 Linux distro, you might be good.
I don't know if a Mac would, but I know some must be installed and run off the HDD, as they use(d?) something like a open bios or something. I think you are more limited on a Mac.
On a PC you could slap in any multitude of Linux Live Distros.
Google "Mac Live Distro" see what appears...? -
Why not take it to an Apple store and have it serviced? Not that replacing the cable is a hard task.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

If it's an '05 it's going to have a PPC processor - good luck getting any portable OS's to run on that.. Looks like it's time for a new lappy?-- Sent from my iPad using nothing more than my fingersComment
