DVR Recommendations?

I convinced my wife to scale back and drop the Comcast elite programming she was buying. We were paying $225 a month for " all" the channels, Internet and phone. We're down to 80 now but they say they can't give us a DVR without upgrading packages again.

Is TiVo my only solution?
