    Motorola Droid (Model-A855)

    Hi,

My friend gave me his old first generation Motorola Droid smart phone, it doesn't have a battery, so I had to order one off of eBay, but I have a few questions about it: Does it have WiFi capabilities, can it support Adobe Flash? (i.e; Hulu, liveleak.com and any other non-mobile websites that have flash content) and lastly; am I able to access the Android Market and download content without setting up the phone with a carrier so I can update the operating system to a more current OS?

    Thanks in advance!

WiFi, yes. Flash, yes. Android Play Market, yes. Use without carrier, yes.

For flash, some sites block mobile browsers though, such as Hulu.

Go to droidforum and put the latest rom on. Steeldroid is pretty good.

          CyanogenMod works well on this...

Night & Day better than stock (firmware/ROM).

I GAVE AWAY my iPhone... as Droid(1) can still be updated pretty current...

BTW: this has a great camera compared to the Sidekick 4g on T-Mobile... I have to use my Droid and Droid2 (via WiFi) to deposit checks via on the Chase app most of the time, as the Chase app and the SK4g camera do not play as well as the 5MP camera on the D1 and D2 do (and they have service disconnected).

Clearly didn't know what to do with it, and was probably running stock firmware w/no overclock...

Flash is possible with any "Froyo" version update.

Someone likes overpriced, shiny *****. You can polish a turd, but it still a turd. Steve Jobs is dead, so should be the iphony.

Kudos on getting rid of apple garbage. I have the original Droid A855 still. I've stopped updating some of my apps because the newer updates are designed for the newer 2-core processor phones, and the apps tend to run real slow or force close often. Specifically the Facebook app. The most current Android OS version available for this phone is the Froyo build 2.2.3/FRK76. Can't update to Honeycomb (3.x.x) or Ice Cream Sandwich (4.x.x). I'm currently looking for a dual-core Android phone that allows battery replacement, as I use the RunKeeper app to track bicycle rides, and have to swap batteries sometimes during the rides (25+ miles). The GPS really drains the battery.
