Why Cal Guns hangs Up loading pages

I have determined that the reason that Pages load so slowly and browsers get messages like, (Not Responding).

Some of the 16 advertisements are huge .gif files that load really really slowly.

Perhaps someone can optimize the animated .gif's.

Trouble adds have file sizes of over 140,000 bytes.

Would/Could someone Please clean them up...or have the advertiser optimize them?

    Trouble adds are:

    Jack Ross, 147,000 bytes
    Crosshair usa, 347,000 bytes
    Cal Guns foundation, 341,000 bytes
    scopenoptics, 281,000 bytes

    Or

You could run firefox with adblock, gifstopper and flashblock.

NoScript is another solution and the one that I use.

The NoScript Security Suite is Free Software protecting Firefox (on Android, too!), Chrome, Edge, Brave and other web browsers. Install NoScript now!

And here I thought it was...

This was at 7:26a on the morning of 7/3.. Most ever online was something on the order of 5000+.. I find evenings to be painfully slow, but I attribute that to 4000+ page views later in the day/evening.. it's not so bad right at this moment..

regardless, it is an issue that should be addressed, thanks for bringing it up, an artifact from when we had larger banners in rotation I am sure.

Shouldn't the banners all be in your temp folder after the first load? I try to make sure banners are as small as possible, sometimes it's a compromise. You are right though, some have too many frames and I'll cut them down as much as I can.

Here's why it runs slow (where / how / why )

If you would like a detailed explanation of how to optimize the site, I have amicable rates

You're actually not doing too bad, Calguns You suffer from a LOT of requests and poor caching.

I've fixed a few of the extra large images, so that should help when they are switched. Thanks for the diagnostics link, really showed how much the images were taking in loading speed. When I have a little more time I'll try to optimize all the banners.

I dont know what your sponsor process is and how you allow or disallow them to add/change/manage their portions of the site

                  but here's something to consider:

                  CSS sprites

Say goodbye to old-school slicing and dicing when creating image maps, buttons, and navigation menus. Instead, say hello to a deceptively simple yet powerful sprite-based CSS solution.

Basically the real performance benefit to these is the significant reduction in "requests"

even if an image is only 1kb - every time you have an <img src="" > directive, the client has to Eval DNS , talk to the server for existence of file / authorization for the retrieval of said file, THEN download that file

Take a look @ how many requests the page is making. CSS spriting you could pair that down to a 3rd or less and save probably several seconds on page load ( if not more )

and again need detailed advice? I have amicable rates

Not sure what portions of the site you are talking about. All the banners are hosted with calguns, there are no communications to vendor sites in that process.

take a look @ the timeline segment of the performance link I sent.

Lots of little requests. Even if going to calguns (localhost), a server request / response cycle is invoked, exponentially adding to page load times.

since you state CG hosts all of these resources - this is a Good thing and means implementation of request reductions is something you can do without consulting with vendors
