That type of setup is going to be pricey and you will need to post signs about recording audio.

not a lawyer, but im almost positive external security cameras with audio fall under the states wiretapping laws and are illegal. the signs stating audio is being recorded may get around that... but.....

this would be outside not inside, so i cant see it being ilegal as you can record anything outside in the puplic view.

i understand it would be recording public, however you could still be charged with eavesdropping, im not saying you would, but i would still talk to someone who knows the laws in your area. for example if your cameras record audio from someone else’s backyard, it can be considered eavesdropping because that person has a reasonable expectation of privacy in that area. but signs stating that audio is being recorded in the area may work, as the folks talking or whatnot essentially agree to being recorded if they decide to talk in that area. It works for businesses with outside patios and such.

ETA, why would anyone have an expectation of privacy in my front yard

i said backyard, and generally a backyard in a residential area is fenced in "private"

and if you mean, because the cameras record audio in your front yard, they dont, however, audio recording doesnt always stop at the grass in your front yard. it may be able to record across the street, or a conversation through an open window in the house next door. all im really saying here is check local ordances and laws because audio recording, even in public, has the possibility to get you in trouble.

it will be for the front of the house only at the front door. like i said its for my protection, so if i am accused of doing something i have proof i did not. just for one person only.

I live in sacramento city, and these are what i have, i have the 2 camera system after we had a break in next door, these things are weatherproof and 100% reliable. but yes they are pricey, ive had mine for a little over a year outside, and so far not a hiccup. They record to a sd card, and can easily be uploaded to a computer, Mine also has Audio but i have it turned off to get around the law problem I have the first one on the page with the 7 inch lcd screen .

i should also mention that mine are within 25 feet of the reciever(i had to drill thru the side of my house to run the wire to a powersocket) but despite the recent reviews, they do work.

wait, if someone is in my backyard, how could they have an expectation of privacy?
