    FYI...starting June 28.

Verizon Wireless is revamping its prices with new service plans that include unlimited calls and texts and the ability for customers to share their data allowance among multiple devices as it looks to shake up the U.S. wireless industry.

F'ing us all in the A. I don't want to share anything, right now I pay ~$80 for minimum minutes, 1000 texts (both of which I never come close to), and unlimited data (I go over 2GB/mo regularly).

Cheapest I could do under their new "F' Everybody" plans is ~$90 for unlimited voice and texts (which I don't need or want), and 1GB data, which I'd blow through every month, so I'd have to go to ~$100 for 2GB of data, which I'd still bust sometimes, so I'd have to do ~$110 for 4GB of data which I still might break once in awhile.

I hear they're planning on getting rid of the grandfathered unlimited data plans.

You don't have to change to the new VZW plans if you don't want to. Keep what you have if you are happy. And they are not forcing customers off grandfathered unlimited data plans.

The new plans are great for families with multiple smartphones.

Oh, and they no longer offer the $5 text plan. Its either $10 for 1000 or $20 for unlimited.

They are dropping all the grandfathered unlimited data plans. It was confirmed last month.

Verizon Wireless to end unlimited data plan

Verizon Wireless plans to begin eliminating the unlimited data plan it has provided customers who had it before the carrier introduced tiered pricing and dropped the unlimited plan for new buyers last year.

Fran Shammo, CFO of Verizon Communications, which owns a controlling share of Verizon Wireless, first revealed the change Wednesday at an industry conference and it was first reported by Fierce Wireless, an online publication.
So if you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan you will be losing it soon.

Old news JDay. Shammo was talking out his ***. He isn't even on the wireless side of the house. VZW has clarified that customers will not be forced off grandfathered unlimited data plans. If a customer wants a subsidized phone after June 28th then they would have to choose one of the new plans, but if the customer buys their own device they can stay on unlimited.

Even if they grandfather you in, or you never get off of month to month (post contract), if you add your kid, your lady, parents, etc. the grandfather'd plan would not apply to that new phone/plan added, and thus would not help with anything but current plan/phone. If you get a new phone, you would sign the new plan, but correct me if I am wrong.

I've had T-Mobile for several years now, and have no experince with Verizon. My contract is up with T-Mo in September and I am considering change for one issue.
If/when you upgrade phones, they charge an upgrade fee. So, if you upgrade, not only do you have to pay the Fed Tax, which I understand, and you get locked into a 2 year contract, which I can tolerate, but they charge a seperate upgrade fee. Which really irritates me. I have no idea if other carriers do the same thing, but locking me into a 2 year contract should be enough.
Other than that, they have been okay, but as I stated before, I have no experience with other carriers to compare to.

You sure? They stopped publishing it in their fliers over a year ago, along with taking it off their website and self service, was a customer care only plan.

Stay with Verizon. I switched once and went right back after a year. Yes, that means I did actually buy out of my contract, I missed Verizon that much.

ALL carriers charge an upgrade fee, TMO simply shows it as a charge apart from the phone itself. Other carriers include it in the phone price.

All I could recommend is that check coverage first in the areas you frequent. Everyone's experience will be different. Personally, wife and I have had better coverage in TX, CA, and ID with TMO. Ymmv.

There is always eBay for people who dropped their contracts, or let them expire... if you don't mind a used phone. I got my son a zippy Virginmobile Android Phone new for $150 off of eBay, and a few Intercepts in the past for about the same.

I think every member of my family uses a different carrier. I live in San Diego and would never consider TMo or ATT. ATT doesn't work in my house and drops calls every once in awhile. TMo can never seem to even make them. Also being younger, I'm surrounded by people strapped for cash, so the majority of my friends have TMo. All they ever do is constantly complain. I have Verizon and the coverage is great, but so far it seems my brother's Sprint phone has always been pretty on par with mine. And for the amount that he pays less than me, pretty sure I'm switching over when my contract is up.
But I have over a year to think about that.
