Once the gold standard of privacy, Mozilla is now collecting and selling all your personal data from using with Firefox (and probably other Mozilla software). Keystrokes, downloaded files, browsing habits, you name it, Mozilla will collect and sell it.

Firefox/Mozilla is now selling your data!
There is no week nor day nor hour, when tyranny may not enter upon this country, if the people lose their supreme confidence in themselves -- and lose their roughness and spirit of defiance -- Tyranny may always enter -- there is no charm, no bar against it -- the only bar against it is a large resolute breed of men.

Yeah, I read about that last night. That's really disappointing, because I used Firefox not only because it's among the best at actually honoring WWW standards, but also due to their philosophy of respecting our privacy.
Now, this is particularly chilling for us here on CalGuns because we are pro-2A, and we know that the majority of folks who work in tech (including Mozilla folks) favor gun-control. In other words, they don't like us. They don't like even me, the California Liberal, because of that. So, let's not put it past them to use whatever "AI" thingamajiggy at their disposal to collect data on the pro-2A community, specifically...meaning, us...for submission to government authorities or anyone else who might want to harm us for simply exercising a Consitutionally-enumerated right."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

To be a true Liberal, you must be 100% pro-Second Amendment. Anything less is inconsistent with liberalism.👍 3 -

Just switched to Brave and so far I have no complaints. I hear the new Mozilla brass are total libtard activists. I also have seen the signs the Firefox was in trouble and future in doubt.👍 1Comment

Good to hear your report about the engineers (I'm one, too). I hope that they vote pro-2A as well, especially in the Primary elections.
Perhaps it's high time that they start feeling the repurcussions of their actions, then. They're not liberals; they're pinko-Commies who want a police/surveillance state. As a Liberal, were I at the head of Mozilla, I'd immediately fire anyone who even proposed such nonsense as what they've recently done.Last edited by Cowboy T; 03-08-2025, 12:38 PM."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

OK, I've done a bit more research on this, and here's what I've found.
I think I now understand why the Mozillans changed the "sell" language. Apparently in states like California, "to sell" now means basically "to convey". Yep. California politicians--meaning the Democrat supermajority--apparently have changed the definition of the word "sell" to be a lot more broad than it had been. The new definition includes giving away, too, as in free downloads. It also means transfering Web browser statistics, including anonymized, to Mozilla, if you have the browser configured to do that. Yep, that too.
So, it actually makes some legal sense that Mozilla had to do this. I remind you all that Mozilla is incorporated in California, with headquarters in San Francisco, and the Mozilla Foundation in Mountain View. So, yes, the authoritahs could make problems for Mozilla if they hadn't done this.
Now that I've learned a bit more about the actual legal situation, I'm not nearly as concerned as I had been earlier, and I will continue to use Mozilla-produced software. Yes, including Firefox. :-)Last edited by Cowboy T; 03-16-2025, 2:04 PM."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

Back in 2014....nothing new now. Mozilla is a crazy place.
Mozilla CEO resignation raises free-speech issues
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The resignation of Mozilla's CEO amid outrage that he supported an anti-gay marriage campaign is prompting concerns about how Silicon Valley's strongly liberal culture might quash the very openness that is at the region's foundation.
Mozilla co-founder Brendan Eich stepped down Thursday as CEO, just days after his appointment. He left the nonprofit maker of the Firefox browser after furious attacks, largely on Twitter, over his $1,000 contribution to support of a now-overturned 2008 gay-marriage ban in California.

I doubt that they're keylogging everything we type. Remember, it's open source software, so we can see the source code. Now, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Microsoft Anything, yes, I'd suspect keyloggers all over the place.

Mozilla updated their privacy statement so that they have unrestricted right to everything you do on their platform/software. They may not be technically key-logging but they could be sending that info as "telemetry" data.

That's why access to the source code is so important. That's what protects us. Were these left-winger developers--any of them--to do what people here are suggesting, they'd get caught, because it's open source, and it'd be over for them in an instant. And that's what makes the browsers from Apple, Google, and Microsoft so dangerous by comparison; they're closed, we cannot access the source code, so they can do whatever to us that they want, with a much-reduced risk of getting caught. Yes, the majority of folks at Apple, Google, and Microsoft are left-wing. *Very* left-wing. I used to work for Microsoft, so I know this first-hand. I've seen how ruthless they're willing to be.
So, I'd rather go with an open-source browser, whose source code is available, over the closed-source versions.
Again, if you're still using a closed-source operating system (e. g. Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOS), then there is no valid basis for complaint here.Last edited by Cowboy T; 03-25-2025, 9:00 PM."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

No doubt Mozilla is full of left-winger activists. So is the Free Software Foundation. So is the Linux kernel development team. So are the developers of Sendmail and BSD UNIX (e. g. Eric Allman and M. Kirk McCusick, respectively). It's those left-wing activists, like Richard Stallman (the GPL) and the Regents of UC Berkeley (BSD license) who came up with the F/OSS licenses that we now use today.
