    Face Searching!

So really how good is this technology!

Could a employer use it to search the internet and say find pics of a applicant on sites like CalGuns?

Privacy advocates, brace yourselves – the search capabilities of the latest surveillance technology is nightmare fuel. Hitachi Kokusai Electric recently demonstrated the development of a surveillance camera system capable of searching...

There are search engines that can find someone from their photo. Here are several face recognition search engines to try.

How can a person block this stuff!

Facial rec (last I heard) is still 25 years before its time.

In what kind of application are you referring to?

They are not far off from "real-time" facial rec. They already deploy facial rec with the military, just not real-time.

Think of the cop cars outfitted with those camera systems to scan license plates with real-time results.

Ummm, my company deploys real time facial recognition in CCTV systems with surprising accuracy. The technology is here and it works. There are some false positives here and there and the technology requires pretty good initial shots to compare against, but once you get the initial shot of the person, the analytics can do a pretty good job of running the video as it is recording. Email and text message notification that a match has been made is almost instant. Add to that the system is networkable and can run video from outside sources as well as video recorded in real time... it's a pretty impressive piece of software.

Rule #1, don't let your face be plastered all over your internet experience.

My web persona is distinct from my real life persona, I keep the crossing at a minimum. My FB is private, I use facebook as though I am in public being recorded by everyone.

Other than BB Tracking me via DMV databases I try to keep my electronic footprint to a minimum. I have checked with those web data mine companies that cross-reference information and found no solid track-backs. I do it usually once a year. It is important.

It goes beyond your internet experience. When you use an ATM, your face is recorded with the transaction data. Same at the teller window, look at the Wells Fargo teller boxes. There is a camera at eye level to catch a square image of your face. These databases are typically kept isolated from the outside world, but should they be integrated...

I used to be pretty cautious about internet ID and all that, but eventually just gave up. But I do keep in mind that everything I post, and a lot more, is out there and can be tied to me.

But then it's not like I'll ever run for President. If I were to do that I'd better get busy and start posting pics of my hitting a bong and hanging out with domestic terrorists.

las vegas already has tons of real time facial recognition in the casinos.

also, parking enforcement already has real time scanners of license plates

Does not really matter. Your real traceable electronic footprint is less costly than facial recognition software. You can trace this account back to the real me if you understand networking in any shape or form or have access to the log and records of ISPs. That does not even include your payment data (which can be used to place you) or your cell (which also can be used to place you). SO yeah.

Big Brother? He's been here this entire decade, easily.

If you are really paranoid fit a high powered laser to a set of glasses and blind every camera by looking at it, temporary. People do that in cities all the time where high res big brother cameras have this nack for being pointed at pretty ladies apartments (truth). They setup lasers that blind the cameras. One city tried to sue someone for it and it turned out that someone in the city had purposely pointed it at the window of a young lady.. they dropped the suit. LOL....

The internet may be for porn.. but my guess they use lots of tissues with the body scanner control rooms (which do save and x-mit and backup your nudi-scan.. think of the children...).

Turns out the best use for cameras isn't protection.. its porn! lol.

At my previous employer real time enterprise class facial recognition was reality. The tech is out there and it's much more mature than they let on.

I understand Google is close to rolling out a feature to crawl the web for true face searching. So if you have embarrassing photos out there, get'em off the web now.
