    Starlink $50 Mo ?

    1. Compared to what?
    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?

But when I quote it to ask for context, this is what shows up in the reply window:

The plan you are asking about is an add on plan for the new mini dish. If you have a normal starlink connection you can add on a mini dish with 50 GB for $50. It's $30 here in Alaska. For $150 a month you can get the mini dish with unlimited use that can be put on hold for months you don't use it. They just included use while moving, international use and coastal water use today.

We've been installing a lot of Starlink stuff at our jobsites and they now offer an enterprise setup that allows you to use your own router and such. Its cheap! You do have to come up with some kind of mounting system for it but since we are a fab facility thats not really an issue. We devised a magnetic plate with a pole that comes off so we can stick it to our connexes.

Is it as slow as Hughes Net?
Only for those in the boonies.

                DSL faster?

$50 a month for backup internet access that is completely non reliant upon my local terrestrial solutions sounds really good to me.

No way not even close. Starlink gets 100 meg connections but it just depends. It was flaky for one of our CAD guys who used it at home and he went back to point to point wireless. We use it a lot for working on massive 3D construction models and it works good. Hughes net would be a non starter for something like that.

There are only a few of the satellites that orbit over northern Alaska and I get between 50 to 120 Mbs in true wilderness areas.
