    Camera system for home?

I am in the market for a 6-8 camera system for my house i want a 1TB HDD and IR cameras with decent/good quality picture. Does anyone have any recommendations? Remote viewing is a must.

I have been looking at a samsung set but really nothing to go off of.

My boss has this company's stuff: http://www.smarthome.com and views it from his work computer (Win7).

You just have to FW ports to internalNet, and run some type of DDNS for a FQDN resolution (name to IP resolution: http://billybob.servebeer.com or the like).

He is happy, I don't think he has IR, but the options should be on their site.

There are other options for say separate cheapie cameras (eBay) that FW all movement/vids/stills to an FTP if you have a Dedi(cated)-Linux box on at home.

Costco has a good deal on a 500GB DVR with 8 cameras (you can upgrade the hard drive later):

You set up a Q-See account, and if the DVR loses power or if a camera detects motion/blocked, it can message you.

You can get a whole system at costco for about $20 and install it yourself

i was thinking about the same thing for a home project/expense during summer.. but i wanted to add motion detection so you're not continually recording plus HD plus wifi (so no wires) + the notification if power goes off or there is motion detected.

There is a new system called "VueZone" that I've been checking into. Seems reasonably priced and wireless too. My old system needs updating so am thinking about this one. HTH c good

Anyone heard of apexis? I just bought one of their wireless ir cameras for use as a baby monitor that way I can check in on any funny business while I'm gone via my phone. Just wondering if they are reliable. It was only $45 online.

I tried several options. Some build-yourself add in computer cards and various cheap cams. That worked ok, but consider the costs of cable and cams and power supplies and it adds up.
Most of the cams were mediocre quality, and I couldn't rely much by their "specs" of claimed pixels or TV lines of resolution vs what they actually looked like on the monitor. Some looked a bit better, some worse. All in all like webcam quality, a $12 vs a $25 webcam looking picture.
I got a few all in one q-see systems and they have some wide angle and zoom cams in their kits. The software was harder to figure out, and still working on setting up remote viewing, ran into difficulties with the DSL I was setting it up on.
Recently got one of the samsung 4cam kits. The output looked better than the other q-see system it is side-by-side with. Most of the reviews complained about the samsung being low resolution. I'm not sure which samsung 4cam sam's club kit it was I have right now but I was satisfied with it. Again haven't finished the DSL remote viewing setup on it either.
Lorex had better reviews and I just got their 16cam w/ 8cams 500gb kit from costco but don't have it installed yet. If you remind me pm in a week or two I can give a mini review on it. Other's have said Lorex' setup for remote viewing is not exceptionally hard and they have good tech support for that also.

How much is your budget? I'm no expert but I have built several CCTV systems and found that going cheap is not a good idea. I have a 12ch system I built at my parents place. I'm using a 12ch Geovision PCI card on a custom built computer. Works great but the card itself is not cheap. At my place I'm using a Axis IP camera system with a mix of analog and IP cameras. Both systems can be viewed on any computer and works great on my iPhone. I have my Axis system text message and e-mail me pics when someone opens my room door or safe. I also have a 4ch system in my car but I need to swap out my DVR since it sucks.

I have messed with a bunch of different remote video systems over the years. I recently bought a Foscam off of amazon http://foscam.us/foscam-fi8910w-wire...FQUGRQodjiGcDg

This thing is amazing. Easy setup, there is an iPhone/iPad app that intergreats motion and face detection. The night vision brings you from total darkness to a bright black and white fully lit view. I am going to pick up a couple more indoor and outdoor cams from them.
