    Errror CAPI2

I started getting this error in the event viewer yesterday and now crops up about every hour: Event ID 4107 CAPI2.

I followed the "User Action" and went to the Command Prompt and deleted the "certutil -urlcache * delete" as describe below.

Although I'm the "administrator" and unchecked the "hide" option for hidden system files Win 7 will not let me access the other areas listed below to delete those cache files. I did try "searching" those files and they of course are not found. I'd appreciate any feed back. Is this one of those Win things that you can ignore and let it "fix" itself? I've also noticed that Web pages really slowed in loading since I dumped that cache named above.

    Thank you
    Kyle

    1. Open a Command Prompt window. (To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.)

    2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    certutil -urlcache * delete

    Note
The certutil command must be run for every user on the workstation. Each user must log in and follow steps 1 and 2.

If the expired certificate is cached in one of the local system profiles, you must delete the content of some directories by using Windows Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Windows Explorer. (To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.)

    2. Enable the following hidden folders to view the directories with content that you must delete.

    Note
You may receive a message that states you do not have permission to access the folder. If you receive this message, click Continue.

    LocalService:
    %windir%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Loca lLow\Microsoft\CryptnetUrlCache\Content

Yes, permissions in win7 is kind of screwy.
You may need to go to the "ownership" tab to give yourself (admin) permission to edit some files.

Thanks DB, hate to say it but--"been there--did that--no go".

Well, I did the "certutil -urlcache * delete" and dumped the "Local Service" file--there was nothing under the two other files. Doing that did NOT correct the Error.

I opened up the "Certmgr.msc" file (certificate manager) trying to locate the particular certificate that is the problem, but found nothing that would indicate which certifcate is invalid. I also ran the "MMC-Snap-in tool" several times. All that seem to do was add files to the "Local Service" folder, replacing the ones I deleted.

Any other suggestions? (at one point there was a "run away" of the above error, 50 in less than a minute or so before "Windows" stopped it).

        How often does CAPI2 run?

        Thanks.
        Kyle
