I have a several year old Acer monitor. It is 31.5 to 32 inch diagonal with maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440. It is set at a 60Hz refresh rate. I am not a gamer. My primary use is as a word processor (WordPerfect). In the last 3 days the brightness of the lower left-hand corner is about 1/3 to 1/2 of normal. If the system goes to sleep when it awakes the brightness is normal, but in a few minutes the problem returns. Is this a monitor problem, or maybe a video card problem? I have dual monitors. The other monitor (an LG 1920 x 1080) is working fine. Any suggestion for a replacement monitor? I want to stay with the same aspect ratio. My display adapter is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4096 MB, so I assume I would need a different card to go to a higher resolution monitor. What about adding a third monitor? Sometimes I have multiple documents open at the same time, and more monitor real estate could be helpful.

It appears that the panel is failing. What does Acer have to say about this issue? Your panel is likely out of warranty, Acer may have some ideas for you.
Your video card should be perfectly adequate for a higher rez monitor. You should look at the card specs to check its highest supported resolution, just to be safe.
As far as a replacement panel, take a look at the offerings from NEC. The 'color critical' NEC monitor I am using has many thousands of hours of use and has had no issues.

I agree that you have a problem with your monitor. Replace it unless Acer has a suitable solution.Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them. - Rabindranath Tagore

How does it run without the other monitor connected? Or switch cable connections with the other monitor. There is no week nor day nor hour, when tyranny may not enter upon this country, if the people lose their supreme confidence in themselves -- and lose their roughness and spirit of defiance -- Tyranny may always enter -- there is no charm, no bar against it -- the only bar against it is a large resolute breed of men.

Turning the other monitor off and on does not affect the problem on the first monitor. As I understand the problem, these monitors utilize liquid crystals and are backlit. So it appears that the backlighting source is failing. At this point, I have decided to replace the monitor. The question is just which one which is available locally, unless there is something else that is much better at the same price without a significant wait period.

I've been happy with the two older IPS/LED LG models I use. You can see whats on the screen from any angle. I have another LG non-IPS for my security cameras and you need to be front and center to view the screen, otherwise it darkens the more acute the viewing angle.
As I mentioned these are older units so things may have changed but if were buying new monitors, models that have a greater viewing angle would be a factor.
Good luck in your quest.

I got the LG from Walmart. Plugged it in, turned on the computer, and up it came. The contrast and color intensities needs to be tweaked a little. Edit: Not sure what HDR is but after turning HDR off everything is back to what it was on the old Acer monitor.Last edited by BAJ475; 05-22-2024, 11:12 AM.Comment
