    Anyone playing Tribes: Ascend?

I played the original Starsiege: Tribes and enjoyed the hell out of it. This one has a lot of the same feel as the original, with kicking graphics.

Not so sure about the ranking/levelling and buying of weapons/armors, but for free, I'm not complaining. Yet.

My username is DigitalBoy760, if you want to find me, usually on N. America West region.

Do we still get Plasma Mortar? Cuz I love lobbing them over 5km onto the enemies bases in Tribes from my start base.

    Loved Tribes and Tribes 2.

the skill ceiling has been lowered by means of velocity caps, so the art of terrain skiing that took years to master is no more. in the original tribes you had full control of every weapon, pack, and item in your inventory, and could swap things out on the fly at inventory stations found at friendly bases, but the new tribes does away with that in favor of pre-fab classes with set weapons that you can't swap out; and if that wasn't the kicker -- you have to unlock them  the original tribes was heavily moddable and allowed extension of the game to ridiculous levels, all with server-side mods. there were hundreds of great player-made maps, and various mods that introduced dozens of new classes and hundreds of items, but sadly there is none of that in tribes: ascend. that **** is locked down and HiRez studios has made it clear there will be no community modding scene. there are no dedicated servers anymore -- everything is hosted by hirez, so say goodbye to local server communities and playing with the same group of people if that's your thing. i could go on and on, but if you played the original than you know all the incredible **** those games allowed, and if you didn't then this means nothing.

tl;dr : they turned a brilliant, complex, deep team fps/strategy game into a really generic shooter with jetpacks
          and " " = <thumbs down icon>

The bugs are worked out as far as I can tell. I don't care for the "leveling" and unlocks.

I hear you about the mods for the original Tribes. Some truly insane mods/maps were out there.

But, given that all support for Tribes Vengeance was pulled right before the first patch was released, this will have to do.

I don't suppose there's a mod community that's working on porting the OG Tribes into a current engine, is there?
