Why do I need to hit "refresh" multiple times to load pages?

Often when I try and load websites, like open a new tab from a link, or even typing a URL into the address bar, i have to hit enter or refresh multiple times for it to load the page.

Usually it just errors out and says "internet explorer cannot display the page". Then if I hit refresh or highlight the URL and hit enter it will load just fine.

My computer is connected to the net via a wireless router. The girlfriends computer is also connected to the net wirelessly and does not, repeat not, have these problems so I'm not sure if it is a router error or my computer bugging out. She is on Vista I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.

    any ideas?

    Use Chrome or FireFox

Check to see if you are on the latest version of IE on your computer (IE9) and up to date with Windos patches. I would clear all internet history/cookies/cache also (if you do this...you will lose saved passwords and browsing history) to rule out bad cached webpages. As a last resort, I would also just do a ipconfig /flushdns just to see if it is a DNS issue.

Sounds like an Ad-on for your browser. I would check your ad-ons.

It is hard to say for sure but it sounds like a DNS problem. The other time I've seen this behavior is with web filtering. If your Internet is not filtered then DNS is most likely the issue. If this is a windows machine then run ipconfig /all and see what the DNS servers are. If they are the two the ISP provided then consider switching to two other ones to cut down on single points of failure. 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2 are my usual candidates.

Work Content Filtering, AV filtering/protection, and pipe saturation could be a factor also...
