I'm pretty sure they're just going with their traditional naming convention. Sticking to "Product Name and Number" is like saying a MacBook Pro 5 or an iMac 4.

I was actually hoping for HDMI-in on the new iPad. I want to be able to use it as a field monitor on my dSLR (HDMI-out on my Canon 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III).

I also want this feature! Well, I guess I'll keep waiting. At least I can check my footage while out in the field.
You know, there's an Android App called DSLR Controller that lets you control your Canon DSLR. You may want to try that.

Got my iPad 3 a few weeks ago, also put the otter box defender on it from my iPad 2. So far I like it but I gotta say aside from the retina display it feels like I'm on my iPad 2, not too much of a difference but I kind of already knew that before buying it I just wanted to upgrade so I could give my mom the iPad 2 since she had the 1 already.

I heard similar comments. I bought an iPad 3 for my bro and he's never had one, so it'll be totally new and novel to him!

Just picked up a 64 gb LTE and it really does not get that hot, well mine doesn't anyway. The screen is awesome and the LTE is crazy fast, like as fast as a home connection. The screen, graphics card, camera and LTE upgrades made it a worthwhile purchase for me, now if they will just transfer this to the iPhone 5 I can finally trade in my 3GS

I just got one too and haven't noticed any heat coming off it. It does take several hours to charge, but I just plug it in at night so it doesn't matter.

To keep the same life with the new features it apparently has something like 40% more battery capacity. So yeah, it takes longer. But do be aware that if you're charging it off of USB that doesn't provide much power versus the little plug in the wall deal they provide - makes a huge difference.

I like mine - it's a big improvement over the original model and the heat thing's a nonissue - if you play games for a long time it gets warm but not nearly as hot as a laptop.

As a noob to the iPad, I bought one a couple weeks ago fully intending to hate it and return it. 64G/wifi. The dang thing has pretty much changed my life. NOT getting returned. Been a pc guy since day one so that's saying something.

Heat is a non-issue for me. I don't care. It got warm the first time I charged it, haven't noticed any warming since.

The screen is amazing. Videos I shoot on my Canon SX20 are simply eye-candy.

I think most of the issues I have are a result of being unfamiliar with iTunes and synching. I always hear people talking about how easy apple products are to use----B.S.!!!!

This ain't no plug n play, copy n paste, drag n drop device. Everything has to be run through an unwieldy, unfamiliar, counter-intuitive, cobbled-together bottleneck called iTunes. I don't even listen to music and I have to use iTunes?? PITA. The other night I was trying to get some work-related stuff on the iPad and I was ready blow a gasket.

A couple of times, I have not been able to open a desperately-needed PDF at work because the iPad says there is not enough memory, WTF?? Lucky I had the pdf's on my ol' trusty EVO.......

But over all, my iPad rocks. I bought it at the Apple store on Chestnut. I swear I stood there for ten minutes waving a credit card before any of the metroubergeeks even looked my way. What the hell is a construction worker doing in our nice store?

I'll have to buy a cover for the thing eventually, but right now I love the metal case, I love METAL!

However, in return for that you get a very slick and easy to pick up and use device. A lot of average users don't want or need the ability to tweak and control every nook and cranny on the device. Most of the common tablet uses on the iPad are slick and very easy to use.

As I mentioned earlier, I will stick with PC's for most of my work and productivity uses. Not to mention gaming, which is far superior on PC's. For an on the go tablet though, I am beyond pleased with the iPad, at least after getting over the sticker shock.

I had nothing but problems with iTunes since I bought my first gen iPhone. It has caused me so much trouble I about gave up on iPhones and iPads. Then one day I discovered that iTunes and Zone Alarm hate each other. Now when I sync or do anything else with iTunes I kill ZA and haven't had a problem since.

Try using DropBox (there's an app for that!) for file sharing files between your iPad and other devices or computers. Works very well. We did that with our home remodel project, having architects PDF plans, invoices, permits, etc. all in Dropbox. That way our project manager and others who needed access could stay on the same page effortlessly.

FWIW, we bought our project manager an iPad2 at the beginning of our job. He is about as non-computing fluent as you'd find. Made a big difference in getting our place done blazingly fast without compromising quality. He screwed up once and left it on the roof of his truck as he drove off. Remembered it as it passed his window on the way to the road where the truck behind him ran over it. Result: small dent in a corner but all else was fine. IPad still working! Protective cases are your friend!

I believe the overheating is related to the LTE models. The wifi only models should not be affected.

I'm also experiencing the ipad3 heating issue in the lower-left corner (in portrait with home-button at the bottom).

I have the black 32gb wifi-only, with brightness between 30-50%..
