It sounds like you got hijacked. Did it just start today?
I clicked on a thumbnail earlier in the marketplace, got a warning from my McAfee and now I have red X's everywhere photos should be.

reboot in safe mode and scan. Also, download a specific root-kit scanner.

NaughtyMonkey's sticky at the top has a lot of useful info on it.
I had a lot of problems with the Windows virus and eventually had to dump my hard drive. I'm not a geek at all, but have learned a few things out of necessity.

If you have the free version of Malwarebytes it doesn't update automatically, so you should try manually updating it.

I tried this below fix on my wife's laptop and it worked.

Download and update the avg anti virus and download the spyware doctor then shut your computer down and restart it and tap the F-8 key repeatedly while the system starts up and select safe mode. Run the avg and the spyware doctor while in safe mode. This should catch it so you can remove it.

          Good luck!

Do like Zfields said and reboot into safemode.

You are going to want to clean your computer first. I recommend ccleaner.
Run ccleaner. click the cleaner tab on the left, then select all of the check boxes you see except for wipe free space.

Then download Superantispyware. They have a portable version. (meaning you can run it without installing it.)

Reboot into safe mode (while your computer is rebooting continuously hit F8 until you see a selection screen that safes safe mode (select safe mode option)

Unplug your network cable from the computer or turn off WIFI if you are using that. This will prevent the virus from rebuilding itself through the net.

Run Superantispyware. Let the scan finish. If it find infections. Check them off and remove. Then reboot.

If that does not work let me know and I'll be happy to help further.

+1 for SAS. That's always on my thumb drives, along with a couple other portable anti virus programs.
