    Voxer Smart Phone App

Is anyoe using Voxer? I've watched a couple of YouTube vids and read the FAQs, but I'm still not sure what it is or how it works. It's not real time, correct? It looks like it sends a voice message that you can receive if you happen to have the app on or whenever you check it? Does the app always have to be on, or what?

    Seems sorta Nextel-ish?

    Thanks.

all my coworkers and family use it. Its basically a short voicemail. Not real time and no its doesnt have to be open to get a notification. Works fine and you can send pix too

its pretty cool app! i have it and it is real time if you are open on persons profile and sending you the message, but messages are short so you gotta replay it. and if you have push notification on you will be fine.

It's essentially a voicemail, without having to call the person and have them not answer, or a better way of looking at it: it works exactly like text messages, but without having to type out the message. I'm not sure what exactly constitutes "real time" but the person will get the message as fast as it sends, just like a text. If both people happen to be using their phone's to talk to each other, there's no significant delay - same as using a walkie-talkie. On the other end of that spectrum, it's NOT like a Nextel in the sense that if you miss or ignore the initial message, it will store it until you read it so there's no "missed call" situation.

The only reason I've found myself using it is at work.. it comes in handy when I have to give a message to several people at once, and it looks *slightly* better than texting on the job.. also saves minutes if you have a plan like mine with low minutes, high data.

EDIT: Also, to reinforce what others have said, no you don't have to run the app the whole time in order to get messages. You'll get a notification if you have a message and Voxer will open when you open the message, allowing you to reply if you want to.

I have it, and use it at work(fire department). A lot of the other guys on the shift (about 20) have it too and we use it unofficially just for quick questions, or notifications, or just to trash talk. Its cool for those reasons so you don't have to make an actual phone call. You can send voice, text, or pictures and can send to a group of people at once. If you have the notifications on it tells you when someone starts talking so by the time you open up the app you hear their message. Works just like a 2 way radio.
