    Web enabled security camera

Looking for a thread I read here regarding web enabled security cameras, but I can't find it. Doh!

I believe this was the camera or very similar which was recommended.

just looking for something which I can use to keep an eye on my dog run.

Anyone know the thread I'm referring to, or familiar with the cameras?

if you want wireless (will still need power), take a look at the sharx vipcella. they have indoor models, w or w/o IR, or an exterior model w/IR. solid camera if you're okay with the 640x480 resolution, otherwise you'll have to shell out the big $$ for HD.

The one I saw posted here was $99.

I believe it was HD and IR. (don't need HD for a dog though lol)

a search for "camera" going back to 2011 yields no results though. I think it was a link.

I can see the website in my mind! :frustrated:

        This should do the trick.

I use the same camera that you posted (Foscam FI8918W) for watching our dog as well. Works flawlessly and I use it with the iPhone app "Foscam Surveillance Pro" which controls PTZ and audio capability while I am out and about.

In general you can google "ip camera" or 'ip cam'. Depending on what you choose, and what is bundled for control/configuration software... you can turn on options for motion-detection, periodic snapshots, and saving footage to a (remote) web server site if you have one.

If needed, with further searching you can find freeware or software that provides those kinds of features.

I have returned three so-called WIFI cams so far. Thought I could use them to keep an eye on things (yeah dogs) while I have wifi at my shop.

The first one, a Cisco, I spent four hours trying to get set up, then a couple hours with tech support.

The other two I just gave up on when the hours started to drag on getting set up.

You basically need to be a networking genius/professional. None of the ones I bought ($150-250 range) were even close to any other wifi consumer item I can think of in terms of ease of set-up.

Stinks like scams too. "Watch from your phone" IF YOU BUY A SUBSCRIPTION TO.......$$$$$.

Foscam is the one, 89 on amazon. I have 3 of these. One to record the front door and my motorcycle, one to watch the dogs, and one spare.

No subscription, no additional software to buy. These are awesome.

I just got a Foscam FI8910W yesterday. it is like the Foscam FI8918W but has IR cut with gives a much better daylight picture. They also have one in an outdoor housing with the same specs for $100 on Amazon.

These cameras are great. The night vision is real impressive. They work with mac or pc and there is an iphone/ipad app to run them remotley. They beat the hell out of the older Swann IPcam i have.

Foscam isnt bad, I used to use them... I run these at home and work now...

Pretty good for around $100 per camera, cheaper if you get the 3 pack. Software and NVR is free. Easy to setup with event recording and Analytics...

Ive been looking at the Aircam / Airvision since it was announced.

Its pretty good... not the best, but you pay some big bucks if you want AXIS or Mobotix cameras then the NVR software is usually an additional cost.

Ive been using Ubiquity wireless products for a long time and they have been a formidable competitor to more expensive brands so I gave their cameras a shot.

I originally bought one camera, just to see if the software was worthy. Nice thing about them is they keep improving firmware and software as time goes on, so its only going to keep getting better. This hasn't been out for a long time, its a pretty new product, so I think there are still some improvement that can be made. But for home or office use it pretty hard to beat from a price/feature standpoint.

I just use a cheap hp webcam looking out the window, monitoring with vitamin d.

Was able to supply police with good enough video to get a couple of guys breaking in to my neighbors house.

Pardon the highjack, but it's sorta related...

What do I need to be able to see my webcam via my iPhone/iPad?

                              Thanks.
