    Any experience with ACER warranty

I have an ACER laptop that I bought 2 weeks short of a year ago. The hard drive just quit on me this evening. Went to reboot the computer and it gave me a black screen saying no boot disc.

After the runaround with walmart just to find out that I still have two more weeks with the original warranty before walmart will cover it I spent 30 minutes on the phone with someone that I am assuming was from a call center in India. They are having me send in the laptop for repair.

Who else has had to send in an ACER laptop for repair before? What was the general turn around time on the repair and them getting it back to you. Luckily I can steal my GFs computer when she isnt here to get my CalGuns fix, but I hate not having my computer. Frustrated. Mostly because I know they are either wiping or replacing my hard drive and I have NO WAY to get in there and save a lot of pictures and such that I have on there. Two vacations worth of pictures that I made the mistake of not saving to an external hard drive or uploading to my flickr account. Lesson learned.

Took them less than 2 weeks, including shipping, to replace my system board.

Did you try booting from a CD or USB (May need to make boot order changes in the BIOS) - best I have found is Linux Rescue Disk (Free download). That may let you get in & save the data.

      Before you send it -

      1) Pull the hard drive out if there are not warranty seals that prevent it.
      2) Put the laptop hard drive in your PC or a friend's PC using a spare SATA connector
      3) Turn on the PC and set the BIOS to recognize the drive
      4) Attempt to download your data

Well, I'm more worried about getting my computer back up and running. The truly important data(tuning maps for my car, records of all my firearms and important/expensive items serial numbers) is all backed up on two flash drives, one in my safe and one elsewhere. Glad that the turn around time is quick. Sending it FedEx in the morning and they should have it by Friday.

I really don't trust myself to take apart the computer that far. I took apart my last ACER when it finally died a year ago (four years out of a laptop was the reason I stuck with the company) just to see if I was capable of it, and I don't trust myself to do it and get it back together to a point where the tech at the repair facility won't think something is up.

Granted I am losing a lot of pictures and a lot of other stuff that isn't that important, I have copies of a lot of other stuff. I'm only really sad about losing my pictures from my trip to Catalina with my Dad and Grandpa, since it was the first time the three of us had ever really done something together. Luckily every trip I have ever been on had two or more cameras involved, so there are plenty of other pictures aside from the ones that I took.

I cannot stress how important isit is to back your personal files to a flash drive. Gosh.. In the meantime you can pull the drive and use another pc to
load what files you have using one of these if it's sata

          or if IDE

You pull your dive, attach it to one of these and then plug it in to a good
working unit, then transfer your pics to a flash. Once done, reinstall the
drive back into the bad unit and send away.

But the bottom line is BACK UP WHEN THE UNIT IS RUNNING GOOD.

I am agreed with socalblue... you have to boot your system via USB if your CD drive not workding.... you have format your window.. and reinstall.

Just got back from FedEx. Sent it out, should be there Friday. Hoping to have it back in my hands by next Friday or the following Monday.

if your data was worth a grand you could have had data extraction performed to recover your pics. not sure how much pics are worth to you, though.

it will come back with a brand new hard drive in it, and when you boot it, it will be like its brand new out of the box with the original image on it.

I have seen too many Acer notebooks die, for no apparent reason.

Just like the "Entire Series" of HPs that dies just before, or just after the 1 year warranty expired.

I will never get an Acer, nor an HP (don't get me started on Sony's drivers...)
