Cellular bluetooth headset with win7 - not working

so wondering if any of y'all got it to work. mine pairs fine but can never be recognized by any of my programs that uses mic/recorder + headphones. e.g. office communicator, skype, etc.

i tried downloading some bluetooth stacks but they don't install (broadcomm). vendor doesn't have an updated driver. i'd like to be free of my desk because even if i have a wireless headset (via zoomswitch that can be used with phone), it has to be connected via usb. i can walk but cannot be freed from my desk (which I need at times).

there seems to be solutions but they were for xp. nothing from the bluetooth vendor (jawbone). anyone of y'all had any luck making it work with win7?

The only time I've had a problem using BT headset with a Windows 7 or Vista computer was when using a cheap no-name $5 BT dongle. Not once have I been able to get a cheap $5 adapter to work. On the other hand I've had good luck with the Asus Bluetooth 2.1 mini-dongle ($13) and have them on two PCs. You also have to make sure the Bluetooth service is running on the PC. What are you using?

The other thing that may come into play are protocols recognized by the adapter and the headset. For example not all adapters or headsets will work with multimedia applications. For example my old Plantronics Voyager Pro would not support multimedia but the later Pro+ and still newer ProHD do. Look to see if they support A2DP. Beyond that I just don't know.

hey sholling, i'm using it on a laptop right now and it's most likely an integrated bt h/w (unsure if integrated with the network wifi). it's an hp machine but i thought it's broadcomm based also (the bt just like the wifi). i think i have an extra bt dongle (those short usb types) and it was an ivt soleil driver based iirc. maybe i should just try that first.

i read across that you said about protocols and can only find topics on newer BT headsets. i'm just trying to make my jawbone prime work but since i hate that darn thing, i'll probably get a new bt headset anyway and just need to make sure it's compatible with win7.

i managed to get this thing to work and connect with my jawbone prime. i tried the belkin btw 6.0.1 32-bit drivers and it didn't work. but i managed to get bluetooth to show "audio' settings this time.

uninstalled it and tried the asus bt-211 driver for win7 64-bit. actually worked perfectly. i can see it in windows live messenger (same module as office communicator for setup audio/video). i was able to change my audio sound and recordings to choose bluetooth so i can use it for google voice/google chat, skype, etc.

unfortunately, learned this a little late as my asus bt-211 dongle was already shipped. LOL but i guess i can keep an extra dongle around for my other laptop that's mainly a d/l machine.

i also spoke with plantronics and mentioned to me not all bluetooth h/w is the same. some are meant only for keyboards/mice while there are some that can do audio. mentioned what i read which are bluetooth protocol stack (broadcomm didn't work/install).

but i think bluetooth h/w is bluetooth h/w since the only difference was the asus software stack i installed. i probably still want to get a ad2p featured headset (plantronics voyager hd) since i'm not sure the static is my laptop or my headset (the jawbone prime sucks anyway but kept it around; i like the original jawbone and this is my 3rd jawbone too).

fyi for those interested in being un-cuffed from desk even if you're using unified communications h/w like plantronics savi office (have one) since you still have to connect that thing via usb. now i can kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone (cell bluetooth and laptop bluetooth).

I had an issue before with a BT and my desktop. Ended up using a toshiba driver stack and worked fine after that.
