No Animated GIF's??

I tried to update my sig with an animated gif but I can't. A notation came up reading that I was not allowed... What gives??

People were also putting minute long 640x480 videos as animated gifs in their sig. Not only does that wreck load times for some people, it makes the forum look like a mess.

Is this a recent change? Could of sworn it wasn't long ago that people had them.
