HELP! bf2 and windows 7 is killingggg me.

please, bare with me here. i know it is long, but i am LOST.

so, i used to have a 3.2ghz pentium 4 cpu and ran XP on my system. at that moment, after finally dealing with all the patching and EVERY OTHER AWESOME problem that battlefield 2 has to give.. i finally got to playing online perfect! other than my terrible (average 1mbps) internet, everything else was good enough to play bf2 online. (hopefully people reading this DO or have played bf2/bf3 to get an idea of how addicting this game is.. addicting enough to be willing to deal with so many problems that it gives..for me at least.) ANYWAYS. after a while i decided to upgrade and got an AMD athlon dual core 2.5ghz PCU and decided to run windows 7 ultimate. Now, whenever i try to press "join server" in multiplayer, it will CTD (crash to dekstop). playing singleplayer and everything else works perfect. only until I press join server in multiplayer will it crash.

okay, so thats an annoying problem. lets move on!

NOW, my second problem here.. i hope you are following so far..

the entire setup isnt EXACTLY clear to me, as i didnt do it myself. now i am not blaming the person or saying they messed up, its that i dont fully understand it. When i got my new computer, i gaveit to this guy i know who works on and installs parts/programs on computers at home. he is the one who put in the new CPU and a new HDD that has windows 7 on it. (it was actually an entirely new computer that we traded with, everything was already installed.) specs on this computer now:
AMD athlon dual core 2.5ghz PCU
    nvidia geforce 7300 LE
    2 gig ram
    Win.7 ultimate

We also added my ORIGINAL HDD but not as the primary HDD to run the system with.. Something about it being, a "slave"?. The only reason that word "slave" makes sense to me, is because the only way i can PLAY bf2 is by going into my computer>Disk E>program files>EA games>battlefield 2, and then i find the Battlefield 2 application from that LARGE file. And that is how i am playing singleplayer perfect right now but online wont work. NOW, i figured, okay, playing online is not working from that hard drive, so maybe i will try to install it onto this new hard drive that has windows 7 running. SO, i put in the bf2 cd1 and try and install it. i put the CD in, the autorun comes up and click run. the first part of the installation appears asking for which language to use, and the options is BLANK. cant do anything. cant install. i even tried turn off the user account control, and closing the Auto run option and started it manually by right clicking it with admin rights. still nothing. NOW IM LOST. i have heard that windows 7 + multiple cores = no good playing bf2 online. this is my worry!

my mission: to boot up my system IN windows XP. possible?

recap: my computer has 2 hard drives: 1) the primary one that boots up with windows 7... and 2) my original HDD with win. XP with bf2 installed on. hope im not losing you. if anyone is actually still reading at this point.

during bootup, i went into BIOS and switched the priority HDD bootup to my original HDD (im pretty sure i did..). okay, i pressed enter, then came to the option where it says, Bootup: run Windows XP. pressed it. computer boots up. just after i press Windows XP, it blue screens and the entire system restarts.

PLEASE, IF ANY OF THIS MAKES SENSE, which i hope it does.. some help would be nice.

i am highlyyy considering formatting this new HDD, removing my old HDD from the tower, and just installing Windows XP onto this new HDD and starting ALL OVER.

    thank you in advance

Since you switched motherboards booting from the Windows XP installation isn't going to work (it'll try to load the wrong drivers and bluescreen as you found out).

Try right clicking the BF2 executable and pressing "run as administrator". Also try setting the compatibility to Windows XP.

    I don't have any issues with BF2 in Windows 7 64bit.

Is the game fully patched? Latest version is 1.5 I believe.

          Also try updating punkbuster: http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

so it reads this when i try to add a game for punkbuster:

              the game install path C:\program Files\EA games\battlefield 2 demo\ does not exist

If you still having problems getting BF2 to run under Win7, get in touch with me on ufear-gaming.com, post a thread or pm me there, mention calguns.
You made a lot of steps that you did not had to make to get it going. BF2 works fine under Win7, 32 bit or 64 bit and multi-cores or not. Sorry you re-formated your HDD, that was unnecessary too.
