That is a good way to start a fire. You need a 12v power supply to power it.

This would be the preferable way to do it: http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamps/4106.html

        Otherwise:
A Midland 5001Z CB only draws 2 Amps so if you have a 12V power supply from an old device like a modem or cable box or whatever, you can splice the wires into the CB power cord and power it that way. You'll need a 12V supply that puts out 12 to 14 volts DC at a minimum of 2 Amps. Or if you have an old motorcycle battery you could use that but you'll have to charge it every so often, but the battery will not introduce any unwanted noise.

If you use a power adapter, look on the label and it might show the polarity if you are lucky, otherwise you need to use a multi meter to figure out which lead is positive. The cord will usually have a white stripe on one side to show which wire is which but it is safer to use a multimeter to get the polarity, then hook the positive lead to the red wire and the black to negative (ground). Make sure you keep the 2 Amp inline fuse in the circuit so you don't burn anything up if you make a mistake.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
