Can you expand on this at all? We're did you get Win 7 disks from? When I get a new laptop I leave the discs it came with in the box. I boot up, note all the drivers that are being used. Download those on another computer (always good to have the latest anyway) and burn onto a disc.
Then I reboot the laptop with my Windows 7 disc in it and start from scratch. I don't use their restore discs.
When I'm done it's like having that freshly-brushed teeth feeling, you know, when everything is nice and clean?None of my posts are serious or real, nothing I post is legal advice.

And I do have a set of disks but they are the ones you burn when the lap top boots up for the first time....
I am a student so I will see how much it is to buy a new win 7 cd?None of my posts are serious or real, nothing I post is legal advice.

I have a question that pops into my head while trying to clean my laptop.
When I made the boot disks can I just use those to do a clean install or will it have all the crap on it also?None of my posts are serious or real, nothing I post is legal advice.

every brand new machine i setup for a client gets wiped first thing, and i install windows myself from a CD.
Futurecollector: Usually the "recovery cd set" will reinstall the factory image, which includes all the bloat.

^^^Yup^^^
Use a drive imaging software such as Ghost, Acronis, or Macrium Reflect and make a image with bloatware if you prefer, or make one that is clean with patches and all. This way, you wont have to do a rebuild from complete scratch.Comment

Here is the best option:
Read the label of your COA (CD KEY/CODE/WHATEVER) and see what version of Windows you have the key for. Right-click "Computer" and hit properties, ans see if you have a 64 bit or a 32 bit version. Get a Windows disk that matches the version you have and the Bit version that corresponds to you. Download the MFR's network drivers (wireless and LAN), and burn them to CD, or copy them to USB drive.
Install Windows cleanly, use key, install the Wireless drivers, LAN drivers, and do all windows updates. This is one way... Might be for the more savvy, but flawless every time. No MFR bloat, no 3rd party bloat, etc.
As long as the Disk version matches the key, it will always activate. (You may have to install some other drivers [windows update USUALLY takes care of this for you] to get it to activate, but you have 30 days for this.)Last edited by the86d; 02-13-2012, 5:23 AM.Comment
