Hooking DJ system to home stereo system

A friend asked me to help him hook his DJ equipment up to a home stereo system. Anything I need to know beforehand? Any special addapters or anything?

His mixer should have standard RCA cable (Red/White) output. Maybe even an optical out. Nothing out of the norm.

Unless he's running an amp... u may overload the speakers.

When you say may, do you mean will likely or there is a slim chance?

Well, hopefully you do have an amp, unless they are preamp speakers. But I'm sure there is an amp, there generally are for most home systems.

But, yes, rca outs are standard on almost all mixers. My Ecler has XLR outs, but I run those to a digi bridge to record onto my computer. I run rca to my amp. I do not like my Ecler, prefer my old Pioneer.

FYI, turn on the mixer first, then the amp so you don't "pop" the speakers. Or at least drop the volume to zero on the amp, then turn on the mixer, then turn up the volume. Common sense, but I hate it when I personally forget.

Look for "line out" or "unbalanced out" or "monitor out" (any of these should be a pair of jacks) and hook that into an input of the receiver. You may need a 1/4" to RCA connecter to do this. "Balanced out" usually requires an XLR or 1/4" balanced cable, which your receiver can't use anyway. You may also have to adjust for unity so keep the levels at 0 and work up from there.

I think the confusion here is hooking up "DJ" equipment to a home sytem, which obviously is amplified. Does his "DJ" equipment include a passive board or built in amp, external amp etc.
