    Web Site Problems

Hi all my web site is still having issues that seems to be impossible to get fixed. I have tried two different designers,a MLS Major, my web host, and my virtual merchant provider. The problem is my former designer has the codes to make the changes we need but has flaked out and will not help for some reason. Any assistance would be appreciated. I really do not want to start over on another site. Thanks Mike

What do you mean "codes"? Do you mean the actual site code or the login instructions?

What kind of issues? I just went to your site and it seems fine, mind you I didn't click on every single link. Like the previous posters before me implied, your gonna have to be more specific.

what kind of server side infrastructure / languages are you running? php? asp.net? What is the problem?

If its PHP, the code should be on the site.... if its ASP.NET it may be more difficult depending on what method of deployment they used. It sounds like you talked to people that don't really know much about what you're talking about or didn't ask the right questions to give you the correct answers.

In your agreement with the previous dev did you state the code was yours? did you have an agreement? was it free? I have experience with both PHP and ASP.NET.

            Hi there mission man!

I took 35seconds to look through your site and here's my take on the issues:

            - Wonky HTML. Whoever built the site was not using industry standards or at least keeping them in mind.

The above is (from my end as an end user viewing via browser) what is wrong with your site. There are deprecated components / mismatched uses of DOM elements that are not only detrimental to SEO optimization, page load optimization but also pose a LOT of cross browser and maintenance issues.

If you are serious about saving this page (or template / amalgamation of code as it may be depending on what happens before the response is sent to the user) it would require a skilled developer / designer to fix. If you attempted to take this into Dreamweaver and fix it would likely only further convolute the errors and make them harder to eventually decipher.

My recommendation is make a decision as to whether or not you wish to continue dealing with the 3 parties you are presently (i dont know to what extent any of them are under contractual obligation, so i would start there) and get whomever created this beast to fix it or at least get it looking right to the end user, you can worry about optimization (performance and SEO) later.

If that option is not appealing; I, like Slacker, would be happy to offer my services for a nominal fee. I have been a web developer since 2001 and am presently the lead north american web developer for a fortune 500 company. My rates freelance rates are affordable and I take client business size (or lack there of!) into consideration in terms of pricing. And before you ask "well then how much" - - the answer is : it depends on how far this rabbit hole of bad web development goes. If you are further interested in my help, PM me and we can discuss flat rate pricing (i dont do hourly rates, unless you're providing health insurance and a 401k ) and timeline. Likely under 1k and likely less than a week for a ball park.

edit: oh and "code language" wise - don't worry, if people use it anywhere even near a website, im familiar with it

idk, everything is tables. CSS has to be rebuilt. Might be a tad more than 1K. Lot's of cleanup, etc. Looks like just a PHP site. Couldn't get to the store so don't know about any backend.

Well first thanks for the replies. When you ask for some help it amazes me the knowledge that is in the CG family. As you probably figured out I am not a computer wiz. My understanding it is PHP. I can not change or add product pricing etc. My check out does not work even though it is set up. Thanks again I will be in touch. Mike

So you have a shopping cart problem not a design problem. The shopping cart is built off of Zen Cart, www.zen-cart.com, if anyone is familiar.

Checked out some of the code doesn't look like fun. I hate to say this but you might just want to blow up everything and start over from scratch. Take your web developer to small claims court to try and get some of your money back.

There should be a Zencart control panel you log into, do you have this info and it's not working? Do you have all your login information? I doubt it's the PHP unless the guy screwed with the Zencart code.

Did the guy get cheesed off and delete the management console or do you just not know what to do and need some training?

You need to in detail explain what is happening. The guessing game will get old really quick.
