My dad's mouse pointer is on crack cocaine

My dad wanted a REALLY big monitor, so he bought a big LCD TV and hooked it up to his new computer. But since then, the mouse pointer speed has gone through the roof. It's so fast that it's almost completely unusable. He's been able to get by, but it now takes twice as long to do anything with the mouse because the pointer flies across the entire screen with the smallest twitch of the mouse.

This only started when he started using a TV for a monitor (instead of a display expressly designed to be a computer monitor).

He's tried changing the pointer speed in Mouse Settings in the Control Panel, but to no avail.

I think he's running either Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We'd be very grateful.

Well, the monitor doesn't effect mouse tracking so i think that bit is purely coincidental.

what kind of mouse does he have?
      have you rebooted the computer?
have you unplugged and replugged the mouse?
      have you tested another mouse?
is it a logitech mouse or similar with a software driver/engagement application?

if you have SetPoint or similar installed for the mouse, uninstall it, reboot, and re-test.

lastly, some mice have a sensitivity setting on them - such as the new Dell mice. usually they have a bar of LED lights that depict the current sensitivity setting.

In the control panel, under mouse properties on the pointer options tab you can adjust the speed

Control Panel>Mouse> All mice have at least one and some have multiple speed settings/precision settings. I had the same issue when I hooked up a 37" LCD to my main computer. I had to really change my scroll setting as it was on SuperMegaPlumberButtCrack.

Disable the pointer acceleration option in mouse settings.
