Extra Sprint EVO 4G phone

A friend has an EVO 4G he no longer uses because he misplaced it and ended up getting another phone. He then found it in a bag pocket he forgot to search six months later. He'd probably sell it to me for next to nothing but what can I do with it? I am not sure if Sprint locked the ESN number on the phone or not. Sure would be nice if I could somehow use it as a rooted mobile hot spot/wifi devise but I don't know. What do you think can be done with such a phone. Seems like a waste to let a nice phone like that slide into obsolesence without use.

Phones can be flashed to another service provider like boost mobile or metro, and a few others

Forgot to add it doesn't matter if the ESN is blacklisted or not. The way it works you'll get a new one anyways
