I don't build PCs. I build cars and I build guns, but I built my last PC 15 years ago.

Sounds good. I'd get 16 GB, though. Is that the setup with the Quadro 600?

      Yes.

16GB ups the price to $1,699.00. What do I get for 16GB?

The ability to fully model lots and lots of really really fine details, and not have the computer barf on it.

Honestly, I'd just upgrade the RAM myself. I'd get it with the minimum they offer at Dell, and then order 16 GB from Newegg or something. It's a lot cheaper than having Dell do it, and very easy to upgrade.

This is nuts. If I am reading this right, the 8GB version (2x4GB) is $1,439.00 base price, and the 16GB (4x4GB) costs $260 more. But I can buy another 8GB (2x4GB) module from Memory America for $40 and upgrade to 16GB.

            Does that sound right?

Most consumers think opening their electronics is very taboo. Which is bull. I open my xbox, tower, car, etc all the time.

They charge more because they can.

                Yeah, that's about right.

But, don't just order it with 8 and then get 8 more. You really want your RAM to all match. Get the cheapest RAM setup you can, and then buy 4 matching 4 GB sticks. The more perfectly matched your RAM is, the faster it will be.

Thanks, you've been a big help. I just ordered two of the Precision T1600s.

You're welcome! Enjoy the T1600 - they're great machines. I'm really loving mine.

Another option if the Dells don't work out. You'll have to buy OS but that isn't expensive for W7 64
nowadays. If one wanted 16 gigs of ram Newegg has the same as the DIY for 43.00. So with
a few more bucks like close to 900.00 plus the OS you'd have a pretty nice unit.

Dude for your line of work, you should grab 24gigs really especially with the cheap ram prices.
