    Possible dash cam?

    Hey everybody,

I've been in contact with some super idiots lately during my Bay Area commute and I'm just wondering what would be a good setup for a dash mounted camera.

I've seen lots of YouTube videos with the GoPro, and was wondering if that would be a good start?

I also want a good, or at least cheap, mount for my hard plastic dash so I can have it fixed properly. Not looking to drill into it, but somehow keep it in place. Maybe even a suction cup mount for the windshield?

    Any ideas?
    Suggestions?

yea ive been thinking about getting a gopro also...not a bad idea just in case. not sure exactly how u plan to use it but i think the gopro cameras can run between 2-3 hours per charge, dont know if ur traveling a longer distance.
Time to nut up, or shut up.

Usually my commute is 2-3 hours both ways.

Pretty much want it for any accidents (god forbid) or incidents on the road. I've been screwed many times in my life, and video seems to be the best proof of innocense available these days.

ive also used my iphone with the cig lighter plug and a suction cup mount that doesn't cover the camera, worked surprisingly well, but big memory waster. maybe someone with a gopro could chime in and tell us if the gopros could be recording and charging at the same time.

The sunglasses look great for sports, but I usually drive with corrective lenses because I'm near-sighted. Plus I'd rather have a fixed angle, even though some may prefer the point-of-view perspective.

But, If I wasn't handicapped in the eye, a pair of black shades like those would be great.

I love my gopro (motorsports version) on and off the track. It's attached to my windshield 24/7/365, but you can mount it basically anywhere in the interior or on the exterior of your vehicle. The second generation gopros just came out, but for your purposes, either gen would suffice. Sound quality is not great, especially if you drive with the windows down all the time.

                Hey Scott,

If it's good enough to stay attached on the track, then it's good enough for me. You said you have it on your window? Did you purchase that mount seperately or was it in the package?

I'm thinking either a mount on the passenger side of the windshield by the rear-view mirror, or on the pasenger side visor so I can flip it down when I want to record.

The suction mount came with the Motorsports package. I've also mounted it on the outside windshield/rear glass/windows/body panels. It fell off once at about 40mph, but it was mounted to a dirty body panel and I guess I should have known better (I saw it bouncing on the road like a tennis ball, it still works 100%).

My dash cam right now it sits just left of my rear view mirror and the videos are not that shaking at all. the mount is very stiff. it does 720p video, i stick with the smaller card so it would delete the old stuff sooner.

                    dash cam

/\ That's a nice price, but no sound and so-so picture... at least that's what I see on YouTube.

But still, not bad to start with.

This is what I do. I'm using an Ipod Touch (64Gb) I don't see the need to have another object stuck to my windshield. The pic is great, I can see what I'm shooting (video), I got sound, but no zoom. My Samsonite mount holds on pretty well even when I'm rolling up and down the hills of San Francisco. I was thinking of setting up my webcam in my car to see what it could do. The image would be crap, though.

I installed a DVR in my car for use as a drive camera. My car seemed to be a idiot magnet so I decided to record it. Sometimes I leave it on while at work in case someone hits it. The only problem is the provided software kills the video qulity when I convert it to AVI.

Eyemax 4ch DVR with 32 Gb CF card.
